I first ate here over 25 years ago. Returned yesterday for the 1st time in over 15 years. I had a lovely lunch in an atmosphere which really hasn't changed much in those 15 years. Still full of city types, who clearly know their quality food. I had a starter of Mutton Tikka, very nice it was too. Main course... More

This is an Old fashioned restaurant from before World War II and its food, if anything, has improved. The food is very good and the 100 or so dishes available are shown on the website of London''s oldest Restaurant in the East End. It is just five minutes walk from Aldgate East District line Underground Station. We were 26 friends... More

This placed opened in 1939 and must have been amongst the first curry houses in London. It is excellent. It won't break the bank. The food is fresh and remarkably tasty. I hope beyond all hope that this place never changes.

I have been coming to this restaurant for twenty years, tucked around the back of Leman Street. Purports to be the oldest Indian restaurant in the east end. (1939) Food is good, tasty, and reasonably priced. Most of the clientele are regulars who have been going for years. Our favourite waiter, Shujan has been working here for twenty years too.... More

Have eaten in the Halal since 1968 and little has changed over that period of time. Amazingly the food has remained at a consistently high standard in this family run business throughout. Visited again last Friday with 12 ex-work colleagues and again on Sunday with my son and his wife- never to be disappointed. Highly recommended for true connoisseurs of... More

this place is great , its reputation is mostly thanks to the manager and his welcoming staff, service is ok, but its very practical for having lunch or dinner for business or after hours. great selection of a wide range of indiand foods. recommend a visit even if your not going on business just for the food .

I have been frequenting this legendary restaurant since I was aged 16 ,the days of long blonde hair,I`m now 50 with a head like a lightbulb but I`m still switched on enough to know that the food in here is the best by far in the east end ,and wipes the floor with all of those so called trendy places... The Halal Restaurant may not look much from the outside but the quality of the food is exceptional. The restaurant can be quite busy at lunchtimes with City workers recognising that the walk is worthwhile. Good value for money and friendly and efficient service.

Staying in Whitechapel

Neighborhood Profile
Whitechapel
Whether you're here for its dynamic street life, world class galleries or famed curry houses, you're bound to be wowed by the uniquely cosmopolitan flavor of Whitechapel. Long gone are the days when Jack the Ripper stalked its streets. And despite his mysterious legacy bringing throngs of curiosity driven tour groups to its back alleys and otherwise serene garden squares, these days you're more likely to catch a cutting edge fashionista scurrying through its age old lanes than criminals of any sort.
