not flashy, but good food!

Real old-school indian restaurant, no hipster exposed brickwork here, just good curry and friendly service.

This is the oldest curry house in East London, it's quite small and perfectly formed. Lovely friendly service. They have 3 specials listed which are worth trying as they are always good. The food is really tasty and portions sizes very large. I would really recommend coming here if you are a tourist as you will have a very British... More

I was in London for a meeting and walked past the Halal Restaurant on the way to my hotel. London seemed very quiet, especially for a Thursday evening and I had no problems getting a table for early dinner. The restaurant is quite cosy and has a relaxed feel to it. The waiter recommended Karahi Gosht which was delicious, and... More

Grilled chicken and mixed skewers of grilled chicken, lamb and sheesh(lamb mince) are the best here. The smell of charcoal when the meat are being grilled is enough to make you drool as they cook the meat fresh for you upon order. You can choose to have it served with salad or rice, but may I suggest to have your... More

I read somewhere that this is the oldest restaurant in London serving subcontinental food, and it's easy to see why it's lasted so long: inexpensive, tasty food and friendly service. My sag chicken was delicious, the sides and sundries all lovely too. Only slight qualm was the cheese naan, which came out looking (and tasting) like a pizza without tomatoes!... More

Good service and good choice of Indian food. Was not expecting such a good restaurant in this area. Layout of the place could be a bit more traditional.

Very impressed with this place. Too quality food with friendly service. The meatball vindaloo was exceptional. One of the best curries I've had in a while

Cramped, dirty, stained table clothes...food, plates and cutlery thrown at you. Food no different to that you'd get in any high street tandoori in any small town in Britain...what was I missing as clearly in a minority of reviewers.

I have visited this restaurant many times over the years and have found both food and service unfailingly excellent. Last night, however, marked a new highpoint. My friend and I arrived at 2215 and had hardly taken our seats when the restaurant was hit by a blackout. Some other diners were just finishing their meals, leaving us as the only... More

Service Very friendly staff Food Absolutely delicious, came here for breakfast and had the Gozleme (hand rolled pastry) with the fillings: Spinach, minced meat, cheese, and potatoes. We also had mixed salad. All were delicious. Loved the Cheese pastry the best! Price Not pricey at all.. each pastry was £3-4 and it was a decent size (1 big pastry with... More

Staying in Whitechapel

Neighborhood Profile
Whitechapel
Whether you're here for its dynamic street life, world class galleries or famed curry houses, you're bound to be wowed by the uniquely cosmopolitan flavor of Whitechapel. Long gone are the days when Jack the Ripper stalked its streets. And despite his mysterious legacy bringing throngs of curiosity driven tour groups to its back alleys and otherwise serene garden squares, these days you're more likely to catch a cutting edge fashionista scurrying through its age old lanes than criminals of any sort.
