Surely one of London’s nicest pubs, in a quiet corner of Begravia. A cosy, attractive antique pub that - extra gold stars - doesn’t bombard customers with canned music. Great food - we enjoyed the fish and chips and smoked salmon. Highly recommended.

The Star Tavern is a beautiful little pub located down a mews in Belgavia - not quite as hidden as the Grenadier, but on a similar little street. The interior is not quite as cozy as the exterior would make you think, but it's still quite nice. My family and I visited for dinner and we were very pleased with the menu and the food. Our server recommended the chicken roasted in garlic and butter, which was delicious. My kids had fish & chips, which was massive and perfectly cooked, as were the chips. The one dish we didn't care for was the Welsh rarebit - the bread was mushy and the sauce was very heavy on the mustard. So skip that and enjoy the rest of the menu! Great place to stop into for a pint, as well.

We came here for Easter dinner and enjoyed this pub very much! One of the waitpersons was from Virginia and was informative and helpful about the menu. 3 of us had the Sunday roast, 2 beef,1 pork and all were very delicious!! Perfect Yorkshire pudding!! One person got their special burger and pronounced it "Special!!" Beer and wine selection to all our liking...cannot wait to travel back to london as we will return here for sure!

Lovely traditional pub in cute mews. We pre booked for 3 friends weeks in advance. When we arrived, at 3pm, all was lovely. Fire blazing and food looked good. However when we ordered pur Sunday roast, upon ordering we were told casually that they had 'run out of potatoes.' Now, there is a Waitrose across the road. And roast spuds are crucial to a Sunday roast. But no, they had 'run out...' We were very disappointed. One of us opted for fish & chips. However, the food we did get was pretty good. The wines were also good. One thing - we had to ask for a jug of water 5 times. We never got it. Staff need to be more attentive. All staff were pleasant, nonetheless. Recommended but bring your own water and roasties.

Disappointing. We were a group of six friends celebrating a 70th birthday. The ambience was lovely - eclectic furniture and pictures on the wall. It looked promising. But then came the divergence between the enticing menu and the reality of the food. I ordered prawn cocktail with Marie Rose sauce. The reality was a few minuscule, tough prawns on a mass of shredded iceberg lettuce, with some sprinkled paprika, but no discernible sauce. The worst prawn cocktail I’ve eaten anywhere. The venison shank was of good size and well cooked and presented, but the three of us who experienced the venison agreed the meat was very good, but the accompanying watery sauce was devoid of any flavour - more Bisto than bistro.
On the positive side the NZ Sauvignon blanc and Malbec were good. In summary, overpriced food of disappointing quality. None of us will return.

Found this tavern on Atlast Obsura, whose sites are places that my wife and I prefer to visit as opposed to many tourist traps. Here for dinner before heading out to the theatre for our second performance in as many days. We started with drinks, and then attacked our starters and entrees. Marmite Potatoes, Cheddar Rarebit, a Cheese Burger, Black Scotch Eggs and Squash Wellington. Our server was attentive and ended up giving my wife and I a list of places we had to visit in Dingle, Ireland, her hometown, where we were headed in a few days. Very historic, comfortable and busy the entire time we were there.

On route to The Albert Hall. The history of the pub like so many in the area was interesting, unfortunately the food was most definitely not. The marmite roast potatoes were pretty vile, not a roast potato at all, more like a slippery, anemic boiled potato prepared last week and shown the microwave . The other food we had was mediocre at best.
Stop for a drink by all means but eat elsewhere

In a pub, I want good English ales, a pub "look and feel" and a warm, friendly, inviting atmosphere. This place has those, a good selection of wines and other drinks and also serves good, mainly English, food. Like many pubs, it has bar service, rather than table service for food. The Star would be equally good for meeting for a drink or eating a meal, so quite versatile. Definitely on my list of go to places. Remember to make a reservation for meals.

As someone who enjoys a Guinness, visiting various establishments to do so in search of the best pint, I am well placed to judge.
On visiting The Star Tavern today, it was immediately apparent that the bartender working between 1600-1700 does not know how to pore a pint of Guinness. There are 3 stages to a perfect pint of Guinness.
1. The Initial Pour
2. Let it Settle
3. Top it Off
No consideration was given to any stage. It was just pour, almost to the top, but not quite.
In Guinness’ own words “If you're a bartender, mastering the Guinness pour is a rite of passage. It's not just about serving beer…A beautifully poured Guinness can turn a one-time customer into a regular”
It isn’t hard. It is basic.
My personal view is that if bar staff are incapable of the most basics, then it tars the establishment as a whole and I will not go back as a result.

We had an excellent Sunday roast and pudding, good value and very attentive staff but the experience was ruined by the foul mouthed drunken man who came into the pub. He was obviously a regular. I don't mind some swearing but this person could not use 3 words without the F word. The staff did nothing to discourage him (or his friend who was vaping/smoking) even though there were young children in the room. A pleasant lunch was spoilt because of one person who was tolerated by the staff.

Dropped in here for a quick jar on Saturday night (March 4th) around 10.30 pm. I ordered a pint and sat at the bar. The barman said as he gave me the beer 'it's last orders at ten to eleven'. Just after a quarter to eleven the door opened and a passer-by called in 'are you closed?' to which the barman replied 'yes we are closed I'm afraid'. Plainly he just didn't want the custom. Mind, I'd watched him pour my pint in a manner that suggested either that he hadn't been shown how to do so properly or, if he had, just couldn't be bothered. Given how he sent custom away a few minutes later I'd say it was the latter. You bring the glass up to the tap and angle it as the beer is poured into it. You do not leave the glass on a ledge a good way below the tap and simply pull the pump handle. It just reeks of indifference. To anyone accustomed to the correct way to pour English draught beer, shown in countless films around the world and a feature much looked forward to by visitors to the UK, this is off-putting to say the least.
I used to like this pub

This is our second time here, and it's a wonderful neighborhood pub in the lovely and posh neighborhood of Belgravia. The steak and ale pie was terrific, and the black pudding scottish eggs were the best scottish eggs I've even had in my entire life. Fries were delicious, beer perfect, and service friendly. I highly recommend it!

The Bar and Restaurant area was very quiet, probably because we were so late for lunch! Could not fault the service nor the wines. We were five in number and had a shared Starter of cooked meats and bruschetta. Our Mains were varied and the cleared plates said it all. Although we created our own atmosphere. we would like to go back at a busier time.

I went here a few times over the summer it’s a great pub and all the staff that I’ve been served by have always given excellent customer service.
Also the food is great too and I look forward to going back again in future.
It seems a very small pub but they have a great upstairs area too.

Really great little pub tucked away in the heart of Belgravia. Warm cosy atmosphere, the upstairs library room is brilliant, homely interior design and great fireplace feature. The staff were very welcoming and friendly, and the table service and quality of the food was spot on. My friends had the chicken burger and I had the fish & chips, both highly recommended with the brownie and ice cream pudding. Fantastic pub, will definitely visit again. Highly recommended 5/5

Belgravia
Home to the vast majority of embassies and diplomatic residences in London, sophisticated and upscale Belgravia also boasts a wealth of luxury hotels, fine dining restaurants, and some of the city’s most stroll worthy lanes. While the prices here are high, taking a leisurely stroll through the streets of picturesque and elegant white stucco houses is free. Hyde Park and the Buckingham Palace Gardens are only a stone's throw away to the north, and some of Europe’s best shopping is nearby as well.
