The MICHELIN Plate: Good cooking

About
The original Bombay cafes have almost all disappeared. Their faded elegance welcomed all: rich businessmen, sweaty taxi-wallas and courting couples. Fans turned slowly. Bentwood chairs were reflected in stained mirrors, next to sepia family portraits. Students had breakfast. Families dined. Lawyers read briefs. Writers found their characters. Opened early last century by Zoroastrian immigrants from Iran, there were almost four hundred cafes at their peak in the 1960s. Now, fewer than thirty remain. Their loss is much mourned by Bombayites.

Really enjoyed the food here. We had the house chaat and the mutton curry. Both of which were full of flavor. I personally thoroughly enjoyed the chaat. Received excellent customer service.. Had waiters approaching us frequently to check we were okay and enjoying the food....Evrything on the menu looked appetising so was so difficult to choose something. Be sure to have a cup tea before you leave. Will definitely be visiting againMore

We cannot praise this restaurant enough. I would recommend booking a table in advance , we didn't and had a long wait. However the staff came out and bought Chai and kept checking we were ok. An hour flew by!!! The food was wonderful and...the staff were fantastic. Probably the best Indian we have ever had. We will return. They also bought my son a lovely birthday treat. Thank you. I would definitely recommendMore

We decided to go to Dishoom last minute, arriving at 1700 and restaurant was already full with a one hour wait. We were offered a seat at the bar (actually a high table next to it) to have a drink whilst waiting. The atmosphere and...ambience was lovely and really set the scene and added to the experience. We were sat in a conservatory area which was a fantastic table. The food the amazing and reasonably priced. When we left there were queues around the building.More

Great Service! Great Service! Great Service! I love it when the restaurants provide memorable service. Yummiest Indian food I ever had. I wish I could go there every week. My favourite was this fried okra starter. (I stole a piece from my friend's plate.) I...hate okra but somehow this one was amazing. Next time I am ordering my own. P.S. Can't wait to see you guys again.More

have been to Dishoom a few times for breakfast and this didn't disappoint. This time we had the scrambled eggs - which were spicy and delicious, plus the omelette - less spicy but tasty. All with a side of sausages, which were also lightly spiced....We were in the new conservatory, which was a tad chilly. Initially we were put at a small table near the door, so one of us was sitting where people came in and out. But, we asked to move and were moved straight away without any fuss. Friendly staff who took the time to explain dishes to people, even though it was busyMore

As a keen home chef Indian and Asian cuisine, I was bought the Dishoom cook book several years ago and looked forward to visiting one of the restaurants. The opportunity arose while on a stopover in London, so we joined the walk-in que with great...anticipation of what we would enjoy later. Unfortunately we were underwhelmed by the food we ordered. The staff were mostly wonderful, very gushing and charming. Our server spoke broken English and we found it hard to make him out as we whisked us through the menu - no doubt this part of the experience as to how to ‘marry’ the menu. Our order contained chillie chicken, lamb samosas, chicken ruby, murgh malai and Nan/rice. The samosa were really nice, but the chillie chicken was hard/overcooked and the flavours harsh. Similarly with the chicken ruby, looked lovely and silky, but the sauce was over seasoned and lacked warmth. Even worse was the murgh malai - marinated form24 hours? No, is was tasteless. Then server suggested I have it with kala chana salad which I would not recommend. On the positive the kingfisher was lovely, even at £7.50 a bottle! I will give it another go for breakfast or lunch, but with some reluctance.More

Date night was a thoroughly enjoyed experience at Dishoom Covent Gardens . Fast, friendly service, vibrant atmosphere and delicious food and drink. While it was expensive, what isn’t in London’s West End! It was definitely money well spent.

A friend recommended that I bring my husband here for a birthday lunch and we were not disappointed. The food is wonderful and very flavorsome. Great choice on the menu. The staff were very helpful and we had plenty of time to relax and enjoy....If you want a great taste of India then look no further. Only advice is that if you don't want to queue for a walk in table then book.More
