Rasa Sayang is a truly wonderful place to dine when in town. I have dined at Rasa Sayang on many occasions and would not hesitate to recommend this to anyone looking for reasonably priced, tasty, well cooked food served by kind and friendly staff in the heart of London. Alice is very attentive and takes the time to ensure the customers needs are met. She is very friendly, providing service with a smile and nice conversation which really makes a difference between a good restaurant and a great restaurant that leaves you looking forward to your next visit! The Wonton soup is the nicest I have tasted to date (which is impressive - considering I have never really been a fan of Wonton soup based on previous experiences at other restaurants) but here the soup is divine! Likewise the Prawn Paste Chicken is both crunchy, juicy and more-ish and the mains are so reasonably priced! At the time of writing the dishes we ordered included Hainanese Chicken Rice and Fried Seafood Vermicelli for less than £10 each! Dining in Central London can be an expensive affair but if you are looking for authentic, well cooked Malaysian food served by lovely people in a cosy and clean setting then a visit to Rasa Sayang is highly advised!

I came here during Chinese New Years and it was busy. I found out they do Singaporean Hainan Chicken and Rice, so yes please! I give this 4 stars partly because of the drink. I got a lime and ginger drink that was pure bitterness, no sugar...so it was quite hard to drink. Also, the chicken was delicious...but there were only about 5-6 small pieces of meat on there, which was a bit disappointing. They give you a lot more rice than meat, which I'm not necessarily a fan of. 1/2 star for the drink, 1/2 for not enough chicken. Otherwise, everything was great. The owner was so nice in wishing me a Happy Lunar New Year and living in the city alone, it's nice to have even small conversations or small gestures to brighten up my day. Either way, I'm definitely coming back!

We loved Rasa Sayang - fantastic food and quick service! We visited as a family of 4 with our children and sat outside, the atmosphere was great. Service was friendly and efficient for both drinks and food. The portions were generous and well priced - would recommend the Mee Goreng, Beef Rendang and the Salted egg prawns. Would definitely visit again on our next trip to London!

Honestly, the food is good but they could care less if you come cause they’re “popular” already. I’ve been there a lot of times already even at the old venue and the staff treat you more like a paycheck than a customer. 1 Star for food, everything else, nope. I would highly recommend “Laxsa Soho”, another Malaysian restaurant right around the corner on Compton Street. Food is good and sometimes better than Rasa Sayang and they are always friendly and have better food to price portion too.

We tried this restaurant for the first time as we’ve always been curious how it is. We always go to other restaurants in Chinatown and have this one a shot. However, in the beginning we were approached by a really friendly waitress who took our order and got our drinks and tap water within 5mins. After 30mins we noticed that it was taking too long already for our food to arrive, every table that surrounded us had new customers. We thought we’d wait a bit more but our food still did not arrive after another 30mins. The other tables even got their food before us. The table next to us only waited 15-20mins until they got all of their food. The waitress explained that there was a system error and kept saying our food is coming. She kept apologising and we appreciated that but still this is not the service you expect at all. It’s like the restaurant completely forgotten about us. At the end we gave up and couldn’t wait any longer, we asked for the bill but the waitress again insisted it’s coming. We lost our patience and finally she agreed to give us the bill. When the bill came , there was a wrong charge of another drink on it so they had to correct it again. We were also charged for the 12.5% service charge which we completely disagree on paying for such an appalling service. We have never been treated this way at a restaurant before. The bill total was around £15. They didn’t even think of giving us our drinks for free atleast.. No offers at all. We were super hungry and at the end we just both went home. This really ruined our night. We would not come back again and would never recommend such a place. Please avoid.

I love Malaysian food (one of my favourite countries) and have had the Chilli Crab here previously, so was looking forward to returning this week. I had the Roti Canai with Chicken which was good. However, there is a very limited choice if you do not like your food too spicy and my partner decided to have the Fried Seafood Vermicelli. What she got was a very large plate of noodles with lumps of tofu and TWO Prawns. That’s right: TWO PRAWNS! We relayed our disappointment to the waiter who said that this was correct, the chef only adds TWO prawns to justify calling it a seafood dish! What an absolute rip-off, it is my understanding that to headline a dish, it has to have a minimum percentage of that particular ingredient actually in it (in this case, seafood). It would be comparable to buying a big meat pie and finding it full of Gravy with only a few grams of mince in it. I have had seafood dishes in many, many different restaurants and have never had to play ‘hunt the ingredient’ much like ‘finding a needle in a haystack’. They should be more honest and rebrand this dish as ‘Vermicelli and tofu with two prawns’. Soooooooo disappointed and I will definitely not be returning. (I had to make it up to my partner by finding the best possible cake shop in the area for her dessert)! So a message to the Rasa Sayang: I suggest that you look at what other restaurants consider to be a seafood dish and advise your chef accordingly. The only reason I have given this review two stars was simply because my own dish was okay otherwise, it would have been one star (even though I could not enjoy it that much, knowing that my partner was not enjoying hers).

Turned up at 21:30 23/12/21 ordered 2 chicken curry nasi Lamak as been going here for 10 years and love the place and food. Curry chicken was raw (not cold) raw and so was my brothers. It was cold to the bone and texture of chicken was raw. Immediately asked to send it back. Rather than apologise or accept the mistake Waitress had attitude and mumbling in Cantonese. She returned to say that it would be 5 minutes to which I said we don’t want it, as having cooked curry chicken on the bone for 20 years I know it takes at least 45 minutes. I am not going to pay for microwaved chicken curry!! Staff were hostile and giving us bad looks as if we were trying to cause trouble or being fussy and still tried to force us to take the reheated curry chicken. .We ate the satay and morning glory( which were great) and happily paid dispite a hugely disappointing decline in food safety/ quality and customer service. Please get your management, chefs and waiters back to how they were. I will not be returning, C&R and mamak don kbow what they are doing

Been here a few times but avoided it in recent times as the waiter was incredibly miserable last time. Anyway decided to give them another go and so pleased I did. Very pleasant staff this time and the food was fabulous- there are not many restaurants where they are queuing at 6pm on a Tuesday and there’s a reason for that. I had the chicken curry roti starter and a delicious seafood noodle thingy with two tiger beers for £23 - that’s exceptional value for central London.

We were really disappointed not to visit Rays Sayang in China Town but quickly got over that disappointment when we ate with them in Frith Street ( their current home). Best beef rendang and hainanese chicken rice we have had outside of Singapore / Malaysia and the roti canai was so good we had to order another 😄 Great food, very welcoming staff and good value for money. Look forward to our next trip and hopefully some Kopi to finish off with ☕️

Located in the heart of China town, rasa sayang is one of the few restaurants that offer affordable prices. Definitely a place worth trying. Beef rendang is phenomenal and the desert was something else 😍 Having never had it before it really surprised me in a good way! Halal Status: All meats served are halal (No service charge/ Card payment accepted)

Celebrated a birthday party here and the staff could not do more to please us and recommend various dishes. Due to Corona the menu was trimmed down a bit, also early closing at 21.00, which put a dampener on things. Reasonable priced menu, both food and drinks. Friendly and knowledgeable staff. It was also possible to sit outside, which was very busy on this Sunday evening.

This was the third time I've visited and by far the most exceptional experience I've had to date. We were a fairly large group of 10 and only had to wait a few minutes for seating downstairs considering we went at about 4 on a Friday. The service and staff were impeccable, especially Alice who was lovely and friendly, she helped us choose and recommended some great dishes to try as well as making the experience extremely memorable reminding me of Singapore. The food was outstanding with the Char Kway Teow be my favourite cooked to perfection and the portion sizes being well worth the price. The food also came out quite fast, within around 10 minutes and was served at the same time. The atmosphere was great and does change depending on the time you go with many families and friends enjoying their meals which made it really warm and welcoming. Alice also taught some of us how to use chopsticks if we didn't already know and then made it extremely easy for us all to split the bill and take any left over food home with us allowing us to enjoy the great food once again. I would highly recommend for authentic Singaporean and Malaysian food in the heart of London with lovely welcoming staff.

I put off visiting the new venue as had bad experience with the staff, when they were in chinatown. The revamped venue, even though only open for takeaways, had a good selection Ordered hainanese chicken, sambal fish and beef rendang. I wasn't disappointed. Though a bit pricey it was worth it.

Excellent night trying delicious Malaysian and Singaporean cuisine. These were some of the nicest staff at a restaurant I've ever had! We had a group of 20+ people and the restaurant was so accommodating and kind. They food was to die for. The ambiance was really pleasant and memorable. Everyone had such a great time and many had an excellent first introduction to Malaysian / Singaporean food! I recommend this place so much! Thanks Jay and the team!

Amazing food. I skip the starters and share three mains with my boyfriend. I always have the Haiwanese chicken rice while my boyfriend has the beef rendang. We visited twice in this month. The first time, the food was spot-on. The second time, the beef rendang was chewy and my chicken was cold on the inside. However, I still rate this place 5-stars. Not a big fan of the laksa noodles but that's a personal preference. I much prefer the mee goreng. We had the pandan crepe dessert as well. It wasn't too bad. My boyfriend liked it but I'm not a fan of coconut either.
