My wife and I almost never go with the "Tasting Menu" with these fine dining places, but for some reason we decided to go with it only because it encompassed everything we would have chosen off the menu anyways. As the title of the review states, food was okay - some hits and some misses, portions were small but acceptable,... More

Came here for dinner with my daughter for her birthday. The service was excellent and I cannot fault the staff. The food was ok, the starter was nice and the cod for my main was not the best. the cod was undercooked in my opinion and very hard to swallow. Would i go again or recommend...no I wouldn't

Utterly truly amazing. The food was divine. The service was first class. The building is very impressive and the ambiance was superb. We had a table of twelve so we had their set menu. This was not a problem as the choice was brilliant. We will return to try the full menu. 100% recommend.

We met our son last night for dinner here. It was a most disappointing and expensive evening. We eat out a lot - both high and mid end restaurants and were expecting a great deal from this place. The staff were friendly, the service slow and the food nothing out of the ordinary. The starters and main courses were nice... More

Jazz Sunday lunch is what is described. So listening to modern and classic jazz on the sound system isn't quite the same as the real thing but none the less okay. The venue itself a former Victorian Chapel with high ceilings is impressive but that alone is not enough when service is lacking, food options run out. So what can... More

We went here on a Bookatable deal, 3-course Sunday lunch £43.50 each with 250ml carafe of wine. The place is located just beside Spitalfields market, which is handy as we arrived about 30 minutes before our reservation and browsed the market to kill some time. The restaurant is in a lovely old high ceilinged building, and we were shown to... More

Great value for Sunday lunch - excellent French food and service to match. Good value set meal (choice of 3 for each course) with wine. The second best restaurant we have eaten at this year.

One of our sons and his wife took my wife and I there last night as a joint birthday treat. And it was a treat! One of the best meals that we have had. My wife is vegetarian and she said that the veggie menu was good, much better than the usual and that the food was fantastic. Service was... More

We visited the restaurant for week day lunch. We ordered the 7 courses tasting menu which is very tasty; however, the whole lunch dragged for 3.5 hours which is really way too long to us. We understand this is a 7 courses tasting menu but this is way too long for a week day lunch. And we waited 30 mins... More

We went here for a treat meal as although spoilt for choice in London this is Michelin-starred and a great venue - Spitalfields Market is a lively spot and this is a converted church by the square. So, venue, interesting. Strange inappropriate ambient trance music - rather like a dance club, not the kind of jazz or classical you'd expect... More

The third restaurant to be opened by acclaimed chef brothers Chris and Jeff Galvin, La Chapelle has been consistently praised, winning no less than 8 top restaurant awards in its first year, including AA London Restaurant of the Year, and Tatler magazine's Restaurant of the Year. Chef Patron, Jeff Galvin, provides a menu of modern French cuisine, gaining a Michelin star in the 2011 Red Guide, just a year after the restaurant opened. There is also a menu gourmand, prix fixe lunch, early dinner menu, and Sunday Roast lunch menu. The service, under the direction of Alessandro Piombino and his team, effortlessly combines warm, friendly and attentive hospitality with a fine sense of tradition and decorum, in keeping with the grandeur of this Grade II-listed building. The restaurant is one of the few restaurants in London to hold a vertical list of Hermitage La Chapelle wines.

Staying in Spitalfields

Neighborhood Profile
For a glimpse of Georgian and Victorian London at its most pristine, or a peek into what's apt to be the next big global trend, the hipster zone of Spitalfields can provide hours of amazement. Around the clock, this is a haven for early morning bargain hunters sizing up its street markets, foodie foragers throughout the day, or late night revelers hitting some of London's most popular bars and clubs.

Wedged between the business-minded City of London, expressly trendy Shoreditch, and zestful Whitechapel, the lines between traditional and contemporary beautifully blur in this historic East End nexus.
