Very Nice Pub at Paddington Station In September, after several days in London, we headed to Paddington Station, to take the train to Bath, for an event in Somerset. We arrived at the station with plenty of time, and looked for some wine. Right at...our track/platform, we encountered the Mad Bishop & Bear. We found a table, just inside the door (as we had our luggage with us), and I found the wine list - in seconds, I had our order, since the wine list is short: Arrowhead Chardonnay from Riverland, Australia, and Lanark Lane Sauvignon Blanc, Marlborough, NZ - both in the larger pour - was my order. The bartender greeted me, and had our wines in a moment, with a smile. We sat back to study the Mad Bishop & Bear. First, the place is interesting, and it does take some time, to look at all of the walls, signs and memorabilia. While not quite a museum, take the time to look around. One useful feature was the updating train schedule on the wall. The space is large, and there are several different seating options, including outside of the pub, but still under the roof of Paddington Station. Some are less formal, and then a few have larger tables and chairs, especially in the little raised area, at the opposite corner, from where we sat. Now, as short as the wine list was, there were about 3x as many pull-taps at the bar for brews, plus several chiller units, behind the bar, with bottles and cans. Remember, this is a pub, and not a wine bar. We looked over the menu, but that was really just out of curiosity, as we had had a rather large breakfast, and would be dining early at our hotel in Bath, for a Chef/Wine Competition Dinner. It looked good, and I made a mental note to keep the Mad Bishop & Bear in mind, for our next trip through Paddington. In all, a very comfortable pub, with lots of interesting stuff on the walls We encountered very friendly, and efficient service - and then it was time to catch our train.More

Always like to get the station early, then head to the mad bishop, good range of beer and lagers, service is normally quick and polite. The food menu, again a good range of meals and snacks, ordering is easy and food service is again quick,...never any pressure to move from tables. As we were leaving one of the staff, clearing a table, wished us a good trip,More

We had the veganuary Seitan burger with all the trimmings and the best pub chips I've had in years. Worth checking their website for offers but at 8.50 it was good value anyway...especially for London. Highly recommended

Dropped in here whilst traipsing across London. Excellent choice. Good selection of drinks - both alcoholic & non-alcoholic. Friendly, efficient service. Plumped for vegan all-day breakfast & Kentucky seitan burger with triple cook fries. Both absolutely delicious !! Would recommend !!More

Okay place to have a quick meal at Paddington station. We reached the station a little early for our train and ate a quick bite. Tried their squid and falafel dishes which was good. Also had the spinach lasagna, which was quite average.

Probably the best station pub I've been in with a fantastic range of good ales. Food looked good although we didn't eat there.

We had dined at this pub, situated within the Paddington Railway Station during previous stays in London. Those dining experiences had been enjoyable and so during our most recent visit to London, we dined there again, this time with family members who were also visiting...London. The menu and prices was again sufficient for a pub meal. The service both at the bar and at our table was efficient courteous and friendly. Our main courses were freshly cooked, tasty and filling. This is a Fuller’s pub and their London Pride beer is a nice drop and recommended as a thirst quencher. Despite being situated within a busy London mainline railway station, the pub still manages to recreate the type of ambience to be found in ordinary English pubs elsewhere. When we return to London again, at some time in the future, we will make a point of returning to this pub for a nice meal and a refreshing drink. Highly recommended!More

Try Micky's Fish Bar ( reviews on Trip Adviser), go up the ramp from the station concourse, when you reach Praed St, turn left and take the first turning on the right. The chip shop is just inside on the right hand side.
