I ate here pre-theatre while staying at the Tavistock Hotel. One of the worst meals I've ever been given. Chicken thick, hard and full of gristle. Potatoes cooked more than once with a bad taste and hard, old looking carrots. The Pinot wasn't up to much either. A really unpleasant dinner but running short of time to get to the... More

Beautiful food and brilliant prices.. It's a shame that when staying in the Tavistock and using their BOG offer that a different menu is offered. The soft drinks and water would benefit from a decrease in price as well. Nonetheless a brilliant meal was had and the staff are impeccable!

Even if I'm not a wine drinker I choose to dine at the Jacques and went there more than once in a week time. The reason is the fine food and the cheap prices. I would definitely recommend it if you are around Russell Square.

We dined a couple of times in the Wine bar It is a very comfortable place to eat with excellent service and a small but adequate menu. The wine is very good within its price range and the staff are most helpful in describing the menu and the wine list.

We ate here when we stayed next door at the Tavistock Hotel. The first night we had an allowance towards our meal. For this there was a set menu of three courses. We had prawn cocktail to start, which was huge. We then had salmon fillet with chips and vegetables. This was cooked to perfection and was, again, a substantial... More

We were staying in the Tavistock Hotel (again) & every night we got back from our evening out we'd have a quick drink in Jacques Wine Bar, it's nothing special, but it's so chilled, lovely staff and they serve a great G&T. I definitely recommend. We'll be back, we always do come back.

Even if you're not a guest at the utilitarian Tavistock Hotel, this no-frills wine bar is a handy & satisfying choice - especially for post-theater meals, snacks, coffee/tea, etc. The menu is varied; the soups hot & flavorful; salads attractive & plentiful; pastries tempting & recently the staff was kind enough to hold our dessert for us until we returned... Like the Tavistock itself, Jacques Wine Bar is a remarkable little place. Relish its ambience and relaxed sophistication overlooking the gardens of one of London's prettiest squares. You'll be delighted with the prices, too. Our bistro-style menu is simple and tasteful. Popular dishes include chorizo and green bean salad, cinnamon lamb with couscous, and grilled chicken in a brandy sauce. Lighter lunchtime options include delicious quiches and soups. And remember to ask about our daily specials! Celebrate your arrival in London with a great value bottle of Chablis or Sancerre. Then stroll out into leafy Tavistock gardens, confident that you found the best deal in town.

Staying in Bloomsbury

Neighborhood Profile
Snuggly nestled within Central London is academic and leafy Bloomsbury, an area that boasts walking distance access to many of London's most popular attractions. It is also home to some of Britain's most celebrated museums, including the must-see British Museum.
