Found this small cafe after searching TA for places near our hotel in SoKen. My wife and I enjoyed lunch our first day, sharing the premises with a number of students from the nearby French school. Our sandwiches were most fresh and tasty, and the staff most friendly. I returned the next morning for a nice breakfast of yogurt and... More

So happy we came across this little place. We've been in London for 7 days, and I think we visited raison d'etre on 6 of those days! The food is delicious and so is the coffee. Matt was very friendly and made the effort to remember our orders (and names). I will miss our daily walk to this cafe, and... More

Best coffee out of the few places we tried while over here. Matthieu is very polite and remembered our names which is always appreciated. Great to also see the local French community going there. Our favourite place to go to start the day before exploring. Shame about the card limit though, as travellers we don't have much cash on us... More

I was staying at the Kensington Hotel and I wish I had found this place earlier in my trip. On top of perfect cappuccinos and delicious croissants the service is awesome. The owner, Matthieu, is incredibly nice. He went out of his way to learn my name and remembered my order. I saw him greet every single person who came... More

A trip to London isn't complete without at least one sandwich here! It's always my first stop when I arrive from the airport. The service is really friendly and quick! They make the best sandwiches (on fresh bread, too)! It's not far from the museums in South Kensington, so it's a great place to go for an affordable, delicious, and... More

We visited today based on Tripadvisor reviews after going to the museums. The person who owns it is French, as are most of the people who work there. Everyone is super friendly and inviting. The owner was really nice and made us feel so welcome. The food was ace, a lot of pastries had already sold out when we got... More

Raison d'Etre is one of these places people used to rave about and I would not get why from looking outside the window. A few month ago the place went through a complete refurb, so it now looks at good as it tastes. Cool décor - but not pretentious-, great coffee, fresh food with excellent sandwiches and made-to-order juices. Plus,... More

Staying in South Kensington

Neighborhood Profile
South Kensington
With its ivied mews, row upon row of Poppins-esque white washed mansions, and placid garden squares, it's easy to see the charms of South Kensington. And with superb access to Hyde Park, Holland Park and Kensington Gardens, as well as the largely child-friendly and mostly free Museum Quarter (not to mention more major attractions like Royal Albert Hall) such charms are easy to make the most of. As welcoming and cosmopolitan as it is reserved and residential, South Kensington is always a hit with visitors.
