I was a regular at this place in the early-mid 2000's when it was based in York, it was excellent, interesting and not your average veggie fayre. Was quite excited when I realised it was in London too and jumped at the chance to visit. The food was stunning, really a shame to eat such art and the flavours and... More

Took my daughters here for a birthday dinner last night and was amazed at the unusual menu, non of the boring veggie standbys - innovative modern cuisine, beautifully presented and although the portions didn't look large there were so many explosions of flavour we were full after two courses - this didn't stop us sharing desert!

THE LOCATION of this restaurant is wonderful for the Inns of Court and for the Royal Courts of Justice. It is moments away and yet hidden in Tooks Court which is a tiny street just moments from the Courts and the Inns of Court. THE SERVICE was absolutely terrific......I was a guest who was paying the bill and so I... More

This intimate little restaurant tucked away in the backstreets of Holborn is well worth seeking out if you want an extraordinary vegetarian experience. There is a reasonably priced set lunch & although portions are small, we didn't feel cheated as the flavour combinations are imaginatively different & you can fill up on the delicious bread! A standout was the intense... More

This was sadly a rather disappointing experience. I am vegetarian and had been looking forward to an interesting and special dining experience. My husband's starter was very small - a smear of curry flavoured puree, a few small cubes of sweet potato and a couple of teaspoons of crispy lentils (?) Pleasant, but we were glad that we had some... More

I took my boyfriend here for his birthday and we were not disappointed! The food was interesting and amazing. We have been vegetarian for a few years and have only been to one other vegetarian place that is as good. The waitress' were great and helpful but not too full on. They even came out with his dessert on a... More

That was really good experience! One of the best food ever! 100% recommend, and also to meat eaters.

Why didn't we know about this restaurant before? We discovered this place through a friends recommendation. Wow, great imaginative vegetarian food in central London, hoorah! Really interesting dishes and good flavour combinations and friendly service. A MUST visit for vegetarians and take your non-veggie friends and relatives too. This is the place to show them how superb vegetarian fine dining... More

we chose this restaurant for a family lunch on my daughters 21st birthday . She is vegetarian and we wanted somewhere where her choices were not just an afterthought on the menu but the main event. The food was delicious, lovely variety of tastes, textures and colours and all beautifully presented. The carnivores among us did not miss the meat... More

Your mother's mantra of "eat your vegetables" probably never brought to mind dishes quite like this. Vanilla Black restaurant, originally from York but now located in the City of London near Chancery Lane, smashes the stereotype of bland, lentil-laden hippie dishes. Instead, Vanilla Black takes a modern, imaginative and ambitious approach to vegetarian cuisine. Result? It is the only vegetarian restaurant in London that's recommended in the Michelin Guide. At Vanilla Black, it's not "vegetarian cooking", it's "vegetable cuisine". The dining areas are spacious and done with art deco-esque flair, Vanilla Black's cool and comfortable dining room sets the stage for its innovative cuisine. Dishes such as hickory smoked duck egg and Ducketts Caerphilly pudding and sweet potato vindaloo with saffron risotto are sure to make an impression on even the most diehard carnivore. Vanilla Black's desserts like carrot cake and orange sorbet with crystallised coriander delight the palate.

Staying in City of London

Neighborhood Profile
City of London
From its ancient past as a Roman trading outpost to its 21st century status as the wealthiest square mile in the world, the financial district known simply as “The City” is one of London's most historic and fascinating neighborhoods. Here high rise office towers such as Norman Foster’s Gherkin mingle with Roman ruins and architectural marvels from virtually every era in between, including Christopher Wren's glorious St.Paul's Cathedral, and John Soane's dauntingly classicist Bank of England. This neighborhood is also home to some of the finest restaurants and plushest hotels in Europe, in addition to an assortment of watering holes, upscale shops, and Tube stations. During the week, the City is abuzz with white collar workers going about their business; the weekend sees this area turn into a quiet haven for sightseers.
