Having stayed at a previous Fullers Hotel (The Mad Hatter) on 2 previous occasions our expectations for this hotel were high. On arrival we found the Rooms very clean, bed comfortable, food good, hotel decor itself really good. Unfortunately less can be said about staff communications. Having no milk in our fridge on arrival we asked if we could have some where we were asked “have you drunk it already?” No, we never had any! Also it took for us to come back to our room to jog the chap on reception memory that he hadn’t done what we had asked. Also on arrival we booked a table for the evening which when we came down for our meal we could not be found on the reservations list and were treated as if we hadn’t booked, then we were shut away in a back dark dining room (out of sight sort of feeling). When we asked if we ordered at the table or bar we were told there would be a 12% service charge to order at the table! Also we opened a tab at the bar for our food and drink with the tab number being the shouted across the bar for all around us to hear by the barman. Consequently on settling the tab we had an extra £18 of someone else’s drinks bill in our tab which I’m surprised wasn’t more. Please get your staff not to shout the tab number out loud. No apology was given either. On checking out on the Sunday after a two night stay and being told check out time was 11 a.m we went to breakfast and came back to our room around 10.15 to find our room being cleaned and all our belongs moved into reception. When we asked why, we were told that the couple staying there had checked out but had left their belongings behind, no we hadn’t we were standing right in front of her with our room key card in hand. Needless to say we hadn’t checked out and were very disappointed that the staff had taken the word of whoever it was that had supposed to have checked out and just took it upon themselves to remove our belongings from our room! We visit London regularly and do this weekend visit with friends every year as a birthday weekend celebration. We have already booked for next year but needless to say we have chosen a different hotel for our next visit, which is a real shame.

We stayed 2 nights in this beautiful, unique accommodation as it was within easy walking distance of Banking Hall, where we attended a wedding reception. The staff couldn't have been more helpful. Our room was spotlessly clean, bright, spacious and nicely furnished. The air conditioning was an added bonus as I usually get hot and bothered in hotel rooms, especially when getting read for a big occasion. Not this time!
Compared to friends who were staying at The Ned, this was very good value for money as the room rate included breakfast in the gorgeous restaurant / bar (a converted bank retaining many of the original features). The breakfast menu was extensive and the food delicious and it was served until 11:30am!! The waiting staff at breakfast couldn't have been friendlier. It was a joy to stay here and we would definitely return.

Came here with a couple of girlfriends and it was great. The original features around the bank are beautiful. We shared the pie board and schnitzel and it was perfect amount! The only thing I would say is that they don’t mention that the pie board comes with 3 half pints to pair with the 3 mini pies, what a selling point!! They need to tell more people or make that clearer on the menu as it was a very pleasant surprise! We shared the date sticky toffee pudding and it was delicious!! Will def be back!

Good afternoon,
Thank you for your review, it was a pleasure to read.
Great point regarding the pie tasting board, it truly is a hero dish and we should probably promote this more. Thank you for sharing your feedback.

I had lunch in the pub with a friend on 20th May. We really enjoyed it and the waiting staff were very pleasant. The total bill including drinks came to ÂŁ80.95 (ÂŁ31 of that being the food).
When the bill was presented an 'optional' service charge of 12.5% had already been added. I didn't mind that too much as we had table service and the staff were attentive. The total I paid then was ÂŁ91.07.
However, upon checking my bank account the following day I noticed that they had taken ÂŁ102. It appeared that ANOTHER service charge had been added to the bill after I'd put in my pin number.
Assuming this was a genuine mistake I rang the pub who took my details and said someone would get back to me. I've since emailed them twice and attached a copy of the bill.
Disappointed that no one has been in touch to explain what has happened or rectify their mistake.
It's not a huge amount of money in the grand scheme of things but I don't think paying ÂŁ20 service charge on ÂŁ31 worth of food is acceptable.
The message is, if paying by card, make sure you check your bank statements carefully.

Hi Paulene,
I appreciate we have now resolved this for you.
We have looked into this further as promised. The tip element can only be added once the card is inserted by the customer so it does appear this was a simple mistake. These things happen and I hope the refund process was simple enough for you.
We do hope you enjoyed your visit regardless and hope to see you again soon.
Best wishes,

The Counting House on Cornhill has to be one of the most impressive pubs I have visited in recent years. On entering this cavernous almost cathedral like pub I was simply in awe of the scale, beauty of this behemoth of a boozer. Over the years I have visited a number of @fullers pubs and it’s fair to say they have a great vision of how the modern day pub should look and feel. There are so many stand out features here, the island bar and the high domed ceiling being the highlights for me.
.
This pubs isn’t just about eye candy and architecture, if you don’t look after your punters then it is all just folly. The beer choice is solid, the real ale connoisseur has five cask ales to choose from. The draught choice is also good, I love a pint of Asahi even if it is the most expensive pint Fullers offer. The menu here is full of British classics, fish and chips will set you back £17. There are also reasonably priced rooms here If you want to set up a base on a visit to the city of London, prices start at £105 a night.
.
I don’t know about you but now and again I like a bit of posh, even if it means paying over the odds. Here at the @countinghouse they have created a place where the city workers and tourists have an amazing place to have a beer, a pie, a chat, a meet or even a place to stay. This is one of Londons most beautiful pubs, make sure you add it to your must visit list.

I had invited business colleagues from America and Ireland and told them about this wonderful Pie House in the City (having been there a number of times before). We booked a table at 7.30, by the time we sat down we were told there were no pies, there was no fish but we could have the chips, we were served flat beer and half of us didn't get drinks. Total fiasco. Will never bring foreign colleagues here again. The staff did their best, it was not their fault, and the manager did give us 50% discount to recognise the shambolic situation - but come on guys. If you're a pie house and you don't have pies, put a sign outside and at least be honest about it. Very, very embarrassing.

For the last two years I have hosted a small networking xmas lunch here and I highly recommend it. Lots of private spaces so you can relax and hear yourself talk, excellent food and cracking value. The main bar occupies one of the nicest looking pubs in the City (which isn't always known for characterful boozers) and the range of beer has improved now Fullers' seems to allow a few more guest ales than they once did. Can get a bit frantic at Xmas or the end of the week with the end of work crowd, not the best choice for a quiet 5pm pint (but again, where in the City is?).

As we always try to look for something that little bit different we thought we'd stay at a pub. The Counting House looked just the ticket, well placed and beautiful in the pictures. On arrival we entered the pub rather than the hotel entrance, which is just to the left of the pub, but you can get to the hotel through the pub if you just ask someone.
The lift is very small, and the hotel reception is on the second floor, but neither was an issue for us. As the hotel only has a few rooms, the reception is small but always maned. We got the keys for the room and headed up to the fourth floor.
On entering, the room was wonderful, open fire, not real, loverly large bed and an immaculate bathroom. The linen was fantastic and seeing that we were in the city you could not hear a thing, and not the pub either. brilliant. One issue we had was with the artificial fire, there was a remote control on top which turned on the lights within the fire, but they kept going off after around 10 seconds. Don't think the fire generated any heat, just a lighting effect. We reported it to reception and they said that we shouldn't turn it on, which seemed odd as there was a remote freely available on top it.
Breakfast was included and was brilliant, a good selection from continental to full English, nothing to complain about there.
We loved it so much we are returning in February. Thank you Counting House for a wonderful stay.

Stayed at The Counting House for 2 nights as it was close to an event my wife and I were visiting; we could not be happier with room, the pub, the food and the fantastic service and staff we met.
After the usual bustle of travelling across London, it was a pleasure to arrive and relax in the pub; all food and drink served to the table at a great speed, ordering and paying via the online app was brilliant.
Not a huge selection of meals and all the better for it, Pie and Mash done to perfection (if a little stingy on the mash).
The room was stylish and comfortable

Started off great when the manager suggested we sit upstairs as it was so crazy busy downstairs. It's a lovely building and very popular in the heart of Bank.
Very limited food options if you're veggie - I had to just order chips. But my friends really enjoyed their meals.
After the food arrived the service went really down hill. They didn't clear the plates for nearly an hour. We had to go and find someone to order more drinks. We were never offered dessert even though the waitress knew I'd only been able to order chips for my meal.
We had to get a different waitress who was quite rude and clearly annoyed to have to wait our table. There would often be 4-5 staff standing at the tills but none would check on the guests in the restaurant area unless someone stood up and went over to them.
It's a nice pub but the service put a bit of a dampener on the visit. The service charge also left a bitter taste, especially when we had to chase for the bill multiple times. It was super busy but the amount of times the staff were just hanging around and not bothering to see if we wanted to spend more money (!) leaves room for improvement.

What a wonderful building and the food was tasty. I had rabbit casserole , husband had pasty and all the trimmings . But….. the rabbit casserole was a small portion for the cost and it had been heated in a microwave because the dumplings were tough as old boots. The menu said that the pasty was homemade but , in the true sense of the word, it did not look or taste homemade. The staff had faces as if they had sucked lemons for an hour. They made it very clear that they were going through the motions… enjoyment or engagement was not for them.

Good food but beware - they may try to scam you into a minimum spend if you go in for a Sunday lunch.
The day after our wedding me and my wife booked a Sunday lunch with each of our families for Mother's Day. There were 13 of us in total. We just wanted two tables for the family and menus, nothing more and we made this very clear when booking. When we arrived they led us to a separate room from the bar with two tables which was odd because we just wanted a table booking but thought nothing of it.
Our bill came in total to around ÂŁ270 with all of us having a meal and drinks, which we were obviously happy to pay in full. But the manager told us we needed a minimum spend of ÂŁ500 which we had never agreed to or understood to be the case. They said it was because we were in the private dining area, which again we did not ask for and were happy with just having regular seating. Rather than accepting it was a misunderstanding and a miscommunication the manager became rude and defensive even when shown proof that we did not agree to a minimum spend at any point in booking (booking was made by email), and lied to the other staff that we were refusing to pay our bill (which we were certainly not). In the end after refusing to a minimum spend which was imposed without warning another staff member came to us and just took the payment we owed.
I will not be returning again to this pub which is a shame because me and my wife had our engagement drinks there with many of our friends before our wedding and I have been to the pub many times before as a customer and enjoyed it every time. But this experience left a sour taste. Even if it was a misunderstanding rather than trying to scam us - the way it was handled was disgusting on their side!

One of my wife’s birthday presents was an overnight stay in London and tickets to watch the Sunday matinee of Hamilton so we were so excited for it.
We are frequent visitors to London but this is the first time someone else had booked our accommodation so we had no idea what we were getting.
The Counting House is just beautiful. So much history in one building and our room was phenomenal.
Really clean and spacious with a very comfortable king size bed not to mention the mini fridge and nespresso machine which were complimentary.
It even had a Marshall Bluetooth speaker which was a welcomed addition from us.
Breakfast was included and we had a little continental set up. Tea, Coffee, Juices and then options from the Breakfast Menu itself. Being Vegetarian and predominantly Plant Based this venue is really inclusive of this which is great!
Breakfast we both got the Plant Breakfast which we both enjoyed as well as enjoying some fresh fruit from the continental buffet too.
From checking in with Egle through to breakfast with the young lady who’s name I didn’t get and everything in between, our stay was a solid 10/10 and we would definitely stay here again.
Easy to get to as a short walk from both Bank and Cannon Street and nestled in between some beautiful historic architecture
So if you’re thinking of staying here, don’t hestitate!

Went for a quick stop meal with the family aged 12 to 60+. The dining room we were in was lovely, spent some time imagining what deals were done in the room when it was a bank.... The menu is great and when the food arrived it was delicious! The best pies ever! Normally you would expect the salad option to be the poor relation on a menu full of pie and meat, but no! The salad was fresh, crisp and delicious too!
The bar staff were great to, very attentive profesional and friendly. They even remembered us mentioning on arrival that it we were in London celebrating the birthday of one of our party..... and they made his dessert a little bit more special! Lovely place and we will definitely return.

Ate here on Wednesday last week: we popped in for a mid morning drink and saw that the dining area is upstairs so almost dismissed it: (my husband has a back injury and cannot do stairs). However, on chatting with the barmaid, she said she could arrange a table in the bar for our evening meal so we booked. On arrival, the bar was extremely busy with City workers, but there was a reserved sign on "our" table and the thong of people moved away to enable us to take our seats. The meals here are typical pub fare, but done very well: we enjoyed our pies enormously. I have nothing but praise for this place and highly recommend it. If ever I'm back in "The City" I know where I'll be heading.

City of London
From its ancient past as a Roman trading outpost to its 21st century status as the wealthiest square mile in the world, the financial district known simply as “The City” is one of London's most historic and fascinating neighborhoods. Here high rise office towers such as Norman Foster’s Gherkin mingle with Roman ruins and architectural marvels from virtually every era in between, including Christopher Wren's glorious St.Paul's Cathedral, and John Soane's dauntingly classicist Bank of England. This neighborhood is also home to some of the finest restaurants and plushest hotels in Europe, in addition to an assortment of watering holes, upscale shops, and Tube stations. During the week, the City is abuzz with white collar workers going about their business; the weekend sees this area turn into a quiet haven for sightseers.
