Stumbled upon Sussex at lunchtime after buying theater tickets. Attractive pub. Our four orders were ready at different times so that half of us were finished eating when the others were just beginning. Pulled pork nacho toppings were a little sparse. Did not care for...More

There's nothing really to complain about, but it earns an average vote as that's exactly what this pub is - average. The food is normal pub standard, the drinks are the usual suspects, there's a couple of TVs, and non-offensive background music. There's a lot...More

Fun looking place inside and out. Staff helpful and welcoming. Food hot, not too long to wait for it. Had Fish and Chips and Steak and Ale pie. Wondered a bit about the "label" attached to the pie....edible? Didn't chance it but otherwise quite good....More

The place is crowdy, but there is more space downstairs, that is good when rain is outside. Traditional cuisine, substantial portions, prices are regular for such type of spots. In heart of Soho, next to A.Christie's memorial sculpture.

Description
The Sussex in Covent Garden is a traditional London pub. You'll find us on Upper St Martins Lane, where Covent Garden connects to Leicester Square. Our menu is in the best tradition of British pub food. Best enjoyed with a drink, friends and always with a warm welcome. The area where the Sussex pub is situated has been a recognised thoroughfare since Saxon times. In Roman times this area also connected Westminster to the City of London. During the reign of King John (1199-1216) Long Acre was recorded as the northern boundary of the Covent Garden of the monks of St. Peter's Abbey. Over the years the area has been home to royalty, cartwrights and fruiterers in addition to famous names such as Nicholas Stone the sculptor, Oliver Cromwell and John Dryden. Today the area is still a bustling hub of activity connecting Covent Garden to Leicester Square. Our downstairs bar with a capacity of up to 100 is available to hire for private parties and functions. The team at the Sussex look forward to welcoming you!
