Had a fantastic visit to The Dorchester, for afternoon tea with champagne. The staff were warm, friendly and inviting. Kevin greeted us at reception and showed us the beautifully crafted gingerbread Dorchester. We were then shown to our table by George, who served impeccably and was attentive. He even arranged for a birthday cake to be delivered, as a surprise... More

If I'm to be entirely honest I was disappointed with our "festive afternoon tea" at the Promenade at The Dorchester. Whilst the building, the decor and the ambience was delightful and everything I'd expected, the afternoon tea itself was a let down on a couple of fronts. Firstly the food; the sandwiches and scones were lovely (and plentiful) but the... More

Afternoon tea with all you can think of, served by top class well dressed waiters. Beautiful female pianist entertaining, and 5 star superior class in any square ince of the hotel. Everything that comes from their kitchen is superb.

I was there for the Christmas Carol afternoon tea. I have also been there before to celebrate birthdays with afternoon tea outside of the holiday period. The decor and ambiance are unparalleled in London, in my opinion, for afternoon tea. The Promenade is open and inviting (in comparison to Claridge's which can seem a little cloistered). The service is also... More

I went to the Dorchester with two friends for afternoon tea to celebrate a special birthday . I'd been before and it's a favourite having tried a lot of the other London hotels. As soon as you walk through the grand entrance and look down the stunning promenade with its velvet banquettes rich fabrics and wonderful flower displays you are... More

In one of London`s oldest high fashion hotels -------well worth a visit just to see the decor and, at present, the wonderful Christmas decorations. We went for breakfast to meet a friend, and stayed well into the afternoon talking, without feeling in any way unwelcomed. The service, as you would expect, was exemplary; the whole visit memorable ----- expensive but... More

A friend's fiftieth birthday was celebrated with the sumptuous afternoon tea served here. The Dorchester Blend is a beautiful Assam tea, finger sandwiches, warm scones, delicate cakes that you are allowed to take home. A complimentary mini birthday cake was a lovely touch and I must thank the waiter from Goa who gave me a plate of cucumber and cream... More

The setting could not be more classically opulent. Several years ago, I recall sitting at a table adjacent to Charlton Heston as he regaled his guests with show biz stories. It's the kind of place where such an occurrence would not seem extraordinary. The Dorchester has been completely remodeled since I was there last. I am glad the new furnishings... More

Staying in Mayfair

Neighborhood Profile
Set beside some of London's best parks and home to world-class galleries, luxurious hotels, and famed thoroughfares, the ultra upscale Mayfair is one of London's most exclusive haunts. Here the shopping is haute, the dining is exquisite, and the nightlife is vibrant. A casual stroll through the area’s chic streets will reveal that Michelin stars and chauffeured cars are practically the norm here. Even if you're on a tight budget, this exceptionally well connected swath of Central London is worth exploring, if only for the chance to take a peak at the goings on of upper crust English society.
