We came here after having been on a food tour a few months ago and loving the bread and butter pudding! The food was lovely, especially the desserts! A few little mishaps with service have prevented us from giving 5 stars. Nothing bad just considering it wasn't very busy a few mistakes were made, like taking drinks away before they... More

Recently had lunch at this lovely to look at restaurant. Sadly, the food was not too wonderful. We started by sharing a main course portion of Devilled Whitebait .Portion size was good, but I personally thought that the devil had been exorcised. There just wasn't enough taste for me. We then had the lamb chops, which come with a goodly... More

I love this place, it is so traditional inside compared to all the other uber hipster joints in this area of the East End now. The menu is upmarket British pub food. I went retro and had the baked Camembert, which was delicious but the absolute superstar of the menu here is the bread and butter pudding. What, humble bread... More

The Bread and Butter Pudding is worth a trip to England. We visited the English Restaurant as part of the East End Food Tour. We sampled 13 restaurants; this was my favorite.

We arrived Hank Marvin and left all flup. Lovely sausage and bacon, very well presented with a choice of eggs, black pudding, toms, toast etc. Very lovely, 4 happy diners. Big pots of tea, traditional surroundings.... If we come back...we'll be back if that makes sense. Recommended.

Excellent meal, service and surroundings. Salamogundy salad was truly an experience. Meatloaf was tasty juicy and filling. The fish and chips took me back to my youth. The best bread pudding on the planet!!!! Worth it just for that however all the staff were friendly attentive and responsive to all our questions and requests. Certainly a restaurant we will keep... This was one of the stops on the Food Tour. I have never been a fan of bread & butter pudding but this will make a believer out of you. They have a sauce to add on top and it is outstanding. Do't miss it.

Fab place opposite old Spitalfields, the Crab Sprig roll i had to start off the specials menu was bloody lovely! Packed full of juicy crab with a light crispy coating. Both had the steak and onion pudding with cabbage and bacon, this was delicious, could have done with more gravy, i am sure they would have provided if i had... More

The blueberry pancakes are fantastic!! Covered in maple syrup and a good glob of sour cream, these beauties are a gem waiting to be discovered. Opted for them at breakfast as a sub for a full-Eng plateful. No regrets - they're very filling! Been back twice now to get my day started off well. I would certainly recommend.

Staying in Spitalfields

Neighborhood Profile
For a glimpse of Georgian and Victorian London at its most pristine, or a peek into what's apt to be the next big global trend, the hipster zone of Spitalfields can provide hours of amazement. Around the clock, this is a haven for early morning bargain hunters sizing up its street markets, foodie foragers throughout the day, or late night revelers hitting some of London's most popular bars and clubs.

Wedged between the business-minded City of London, expressly trendy Shoreditch, and zestful Whitechapel, the lines between traditional and contemporary beautifully blur in this historic East End nexus.
