Went to Liverpool for the first time ever. Wanted a nice restaurant so booked this for Friday night. The food was excellent and service from Megan was outstanding. The only downside was that my husbands steak was quite small for the price paid. Would have given 5 otherwise. Overall lovely. Scallops were outstanding. Would definitely go back.

*caveat to this review is my ignorance of fine dining. Decor and cleanliness is very good, generally service was on the ball. Cider and onion soup was ok; slightly bitter taste which suggested the onions had caught when being caramelised. Fish and chips were excellent; thickness and flavour of batter was spot on, fish was cooked perfectly. Mushy peas were... More

Went for Valentine's. Food was very underwhelming and lacked flavour. Starters weren't great... mussels overcooked and 'duck breast' was more like duck carpaccio! For mains I had the chicken which was very bland and my boyfriend had the beef fillet which came with one tiny potato and that was it! Would have said something but no one checked back or... More

We've been here a few times now. Mostly for breakfast on our wedding anniversaries (bit of a tradition now). My hubby booked us breakfast for Valentine's Day as a surprise. We got there for 7am when they opened as I had to be in work for 8am. We were greeted by a friendly hostess who showed us to the tables... More

Had high expectations for this visit, but was sorely disappointed. Staff were lovely, wine was good, but food was terrible. Lacking in seasoning and any sort of flavour, the dish descriptions sounded promising but did not deliver. Our pigeon starters lacked any depth, and my halibut main was overlooked and unpleasant. They should really work on flavour and excitement on... More

A case of "The Emporers new clothes" . What on earth was this ! The wait between courses was dreadful. The food was, I think, supposed to resemble some sort of 'Nouveau cuisine' style ! Minute portions, and I mean 'very small. My main course of poached chicken was about a third of a chicken breast on a spoonful of... More

We have eaten here a few times before concerts/shows at the Liverpool Philharmonic Hall, which is just across the road. Have chosen each time from the prix fixe menu and have never been disappointed. The quality, flavour and presentation of the food is outstanding. The friendly, helpful young staff make it feel relaxed and enjoyable, too. A great place for... More

Enticed by the last day of an offer of a bottle of wine with the set menu on a Monday, we had lunch in this pleasantly converted old building, with many empty tables and chairs for company (and one other couple.) The food was fine, although some of it sort of sounded better than it tasted, but I suppose that... More

I have eaten at the London Carriageworks several times and, on this occasion, went for Sunday lunch. As always the food and service were excellent.

Chose to stay at Hope Street Hotel and eat at The London Carriage Works . It met all my expectations . Menu choice. Not an extensive menu but well balanced using local produce. Plenty of choice from the wine list if you know your wines. The whole eating experience was excellent from start to finish. Had a great time.
