We heard the Black Horse is a lovely pub with a nice garden serving really good food & drink, so we headed down one Saturday for a family lunch.
The weather was decent so we decided to sit in the garden. The gardens been developed really well creating plenty of areas under cover that could comfortably be used all year round. On this day though the weather was fair so we sat out at one of the large open garden benches.
There's a wide range of drinks available, hot & cold, I had a nice pint of Sunchaser which is a Golden Ale brewed locally by Everards, my wife had a pot of tea with the others having soft drinks.
There's various menus available to choose from, all homemade food & after placing our order it arrived hot & in good time. Between us we had The Nosebag & The Les-Tah from the Burgers menu, Hunters Chicken & Aylestone Fried Halloumi from the Small Meals menu. All round we were really happy with how our meals both looked and tasted, and felt that we'd got decent value for money, along with a really good level of service.

Stayed in Leicester for the evening on business and stayed in the nearby Premier Inn. On check in I asked about a local pub for dinner, and the wonderful staff recommended The Black Horse.
We set off on the 0.7 mile walk, which took hardly any time at all. Safe walk along the main road until we reached Narrow Lane.
What seemed a locals pub, on arrival, it was just that. Wooden floors and what looked like it was stooped in history and had seen some fantastic nights.
We felt welcome, got a drink a sat where we wanted for dinner.
I was determined to have a burger. Huge problem….. which one to have.
Wonderful range of pub grub and immensely appealing burgers options. An exchange of light hearted banter with the friendly bar staff and my chilli con carne topped burger was ordered..
A decent pint of the Tiger Ale (ÂŁ4.50) was enjoyed (maybe I had 2)
There wasn’t any lighter coloured ales, but is the season darker ones.
The burgers were fantastic and a colleague has scampi which was a really decent portion.
Overall a friendly local pub with decent food and a nice pint.
Glad I don’t live next door - as I can imagine I’d be saying “Just putting the bins out love” and diving in for a pint.

Visited a few times as they put on some great comedy shows, it's like a hidden little secret on the edge of Leicester, decided it was time to try the food as always looked nice & wasn't disappointed. I had the Sweet & Hot burger, which was amazing, freshly cooked just right, had a side of onion rings also which were fresh & home made. Would recommend to anyone to try the food.

Hubby and I went for Sunday lunch last week with another couple. We arrived at 2.30 p.m. when our table had been pre-booked. We ordered and paid for our meals at the bar soon after - 3 prawn cocktails for starters, 2 roast dinners and 2 vegetarian options for mains. One hour later we were still waiting for starters so asked how much longer it would be. We were told it would come out shortly, which it did - one lettuce leaf, a few prawns and very watery sauce. How could such a simple starter take an hour to prepare? It was then at least another half hour wait for our mains so we eventually went to the bar to ask for our money back (as the driver of our party finds it difficult to drive in the dark). We were told again that it would be coming very shortly and for the second time the waitress (whose attitude left something to be desired) blamed it on their small kitchen! When the mains did arrive, the two roast dinners were luke warm so we asked if they could be warmed up a bit in the microwave, which she did. However, when she brought them back, she asked what exactly on the plate was cold as she had tested them with a thermostat and only peas failed the test! My husband was very disappointed in his vegetarian meal and ate little of it although, in fairness the other vegetarian seemed okay. I am not a fussy eater and have never bothered to write a bad review before but this really was diabolically bad, both in service and taste. Needless to say, we didn't wait to order dessert or coffee and left. We definitely won't be going again or recommending it to anyone else.

Twelve of us visited for Father’s Day .We booked for 5.30 but were told at 5.20 that the kitchen was closing even though it was advertised until 6pm. Orders were a nightmare with many items not available. We then asked to see the manager who appeared 15 minutes later in a very aggressive manner. There was then a heated exchange which included her telling us we would all be barred. The owners were not present but I contacted Allan on social media for a response and subsequently wrote them a detailed letter, 3 months later I am still awaiting a response! I have not entered the premises since but my stepson has just informed me he is at the pub and has been barred . For an organisation with a good customer service reputation this is just a total embarrassment!

I've waited to reply as I HAVE emailed you a couple of times to try and resolve this, but you haven't replied, so, Ill reply on here.
For those reading my reply, I have the benefit of CCTV with sound, staff investigations from the day and had telephone conversations with those on surrounding tables, Stuart has also sent a letter that has a detailed account.
So believe me, it isn't a knee jerk reply (its also 5 weeks since he posted and 4 months since they came in).
So, from your letter your MAIN complaint was we were running out of SOME items and we informed you as some of you were sitting down, this being fathers day, a busy day in the hospitality calendar, and 30 minutes before we closed.
Surely you can understand a pub our size will not having infinite storage, and WE DON'T FREEZE FOOD, surely that's a good thing???
Anyway, my complaint about YOUR table.
You were rude to Brianna, an 18 year old who lost her father 2 years ago but wanted to work on this day, she was so polite and your table did nothing but chastise her for letting you know we were running short and did you want to save what we were running low on.
You were absolutely VILE to our manager Colleen, you didn't give her a chance to explain, you were rude, the man with the ICON cap was rude the lady next to you was rude and your stepson was threatening, In-fact for someone who came in from time to time your sense of entitlement, behavior and attitude was disgusting.
Just a few pointers.
Just because you know me, dont ever think I will take your side regardless, the team who work for me are good, honest genuine people who are trained to give you the best customer service, absolutely we get it wrong sometimes, but the second you verbally abuse them you lose any credit with me.
ALL pubs run out of things, hey its a source of frustration for us as well, we get embarrassed, we dont like it and sometimes its unprofessional, BUT, on a Sunday the way we try to work is that we have just enough so the team get a dinner at the end of their shift, and all our guests get what they want. On this occasion it didn't happen, we had limited portions of Sunday meats and
burgers, but that's it on a menu of 13 items.
The lady who was disgusted and worked in hospitality (and was also soooo rude) get over yourself, imagine if a customer spoke to you how you spoke to Colleen.
Your stepson walked into one of our events a number of weeks later like nothing had happened, sorry, but we wont serve people who are rude & abusive to our team, Ill take all the reviews and social media comments you want .
And finally, you insult me by saying what do I know as I wasn't there, I did a full investigation but the words and sounds of the CCTV made it easy to see/hear what happened, maybe I should have also been pathetic and put it on local spotted sites or our social media so people could have judged for themselves.
I know this is a vindictive reply, and I did want to try and resolve it amicably hence my emails, but apart from the reviews, some of the comments that have been aimed at me, Colleen, the pub and the team, I have no interest in having you back in.
I know you'll treat this as an attack on you, now you know how we feel.
I wish you well.

The Black Horse is such a welcoming pub with such friendly staff. The food is fantastic although the portions are very large but the menu is so varied! There is never a dull moment at the black horse as they have plenty of entertainment such as the comedy or live music me and my friends have enjoyed myself. The atmosphere, food, and selection of gins have really prompted me to go more often! I highly recommend this pub especially if you are enjoying a walk around the meadows it’s the perfect pit stop.

Had Sunday lunch at The Black Horse today and it was very disappointing. My roast, while basically tasty, had 1 roast potato, (a lady on the next table didn't get any) 1 slice of grisly beef and a globulus lump of mushy, inedible veg. I did get 3 pigs in blankets but that was because my vegetarian family members had them on their plates! They didn't send them back because it was so busy and we had already waited quite a while. My grandson a very nice burger so not all bad.

Very disappointed with the whole experience, service both before and after meal was very slow. Had to wait a long time for order to be taken, waited a long time again for meal to be served and the table was not cleared until we ask for the bill at the bar. As far as the meal was concerned the beef was dry and tough, the carrots and broccoli were undercooked, the gravy was thin and tasteless. Roast potatoes were more like boiled and the mashed potatoes were watery. When i mentioned the fact that the beef was tough and that i had left the worst of it on my plate the reply was that they would tell the kitchen.

Hello.
Can you drop me an email at blackhorseaylestone@yahoo.co.uk so we can investigate this further.
I have asked all my Sunday team and they are unaware or this, if you can drop me the date that would also be a help.
As we are a pub, we are not waitress service but we will do on request or when we are able, can you also confirm that it was in fact us in Aylestone as Leicester has four Black Horse pubs and its not uncommon for people to review a different one.
Cheers
Alan

Charming, rustic traditional pub just outside of Leicester city centre, distinguished by a spacious and comfortable beer garden. I visited the pub on the first day of their "Summer Beer Festival", which essentially meant a larger than usual cask ale and cider range, and a barbecue in the evening. I arrived early in the afternoon when it wasn't too busy, but by the time I left (around 5 pm), it had become quite busy. Service was friendly, the fish cakes I had were quite good and not too pricey, and the atmosphere was pleasant and relaxing. Some nice beers, too.

We’d been wanting to book a Christmas meal at the Black Horse after hearing great reviews, and it was an absolutely fantastic evening. As group of 6, including 2 children, we pre-ordered a range of meals, including traditional Turkey dinners, a special Christmas burger, and a vegetarian stuffed butternut squash, as well as chocolate fudge cakes and Christmas pudding for dessert. Every meal was so delicious! We also booked a Buck’s Fizz reception, and we were well looked after by Joe! Thanks for a great evening! 100% recommend!

Called at the Black horse at lunchtime today with our little dog. This was the midway point for a return walk of about 5 miles so ready for our lunch.. The staff were cheerful, helpful & kept their eyes on the customers, anticipating their needs. We both had a main & sweet with one of the mains being a small portion. All was freshly cooked & delicious. My main had a choice of peas or salad. Salad was a really good mix & not your usual limp lettuce, tomatoe & cucumber. All was reasonabley priced. Well done to the black horse staff, we will be returning very soon.

We've visited the pub a few times for comedy gigs and have always been impressed with the drinks choice, atmosphere and staff.
On Sunday 23rd February we met our comedian friend for a pre-gig catch up and had lunch together and I felt that we must comment on the food.
I had a sausage and caramelised onion baguette that despite it's simplicity was seriously delicious - and the chips were incredible. My husband had the turkey and stuffing pie which he would not shut up about. He made noises whilst eating that pie that I have never heard him make before (I'm not sure if that says more about the pie or about me!). He declared it "the best pie he had ever eaten", and given that he's been on this Earth for almost 41 years, he's had a fair few pies.
Keep up the good work - it's always been a pleasure to drop in!

This is a lovely, interesting pub with beautiful walks in the meadows nearby. I love the fact that it is so dog friendly. It has a large garden but as the weather was poor we ate inside and there were several dogs to keep ours company.
Alice took our order; she was friendly and coped well with our changes to the menu and indecisiveness. Joss brought our food and took our dessert orders, he was friendly and funny and could not have been more helpful.
Our food was delicious! Four of us had the chicken strips which were tender and moist and my husband had the steak. He finds it difficult to get steak cooked to his liking as places interpret “medium rare” differently so he asked for “red in the middle” and it was one of the best cooked steaks he has ever had. Our dog was not so happy though as he did not share.
The pub has a one way system in place currently and took track and trace details which I was pleased about as not everywhere is doing this.
Overall a really lovely pub with great staff.

Two of us had beyond meat burgers which were excellent; perfectly cooked with accompanying relishes/sauces. Crispy chips that were already nicely seasoned and a tasty simple salad garnish.
The guest ale was good.
The third of us had a battered halloumi salad and chips, which was perfectly done.
Nice pub with friendly staff and decently priced.
I'd highly recommend a visit for food and drink.

A lovely meal, great range of beers and the highlight of the night; The Laughter Loft - an amazing and intimate comedy club. Brilliantly set up where you get a host and 3 excellent and varied acts, pre-ordered drinks delivered at the intervals - what’s not to love! Cannot recommend highly enough and will definitely be back.
