We stayed in Hawkshead for one week and enjoyed a casual lunch at The Sun Tea Rooms twice. This is a cosy tea rooms which was busy Every time we passed by. The food is tasty and plentiful. The Cake is astonishing. A great place to stop & fill that gap.

We ate here several times while holidaying in Hawkshead. The quality of food is excellent, the helpings are the largest I have ever seen and the homemade cakes are amazing! The cafe is very small so I would advise anyone visiting to get there early. Staff are friendly and food is served quickly even when very busy!

Visited at weekend and had a tea and cake stop in Hawkswhead. What can I say amazing cakes. Spoilt for choice. Will definitely return. Sandwiches looked lovely too.

The cakes in the window drew us in. They are massive! We went for the carrot cake as it was the only one covered (there were flies around). The sponge was moist but there was not really a distinctive carrotiness to it. The cream was also synthetic which was a shame. Thankfully it was all washed down with a delicious... More

Stopped here for lunch on a day out cycling. Nice seafood chowder, gorgeous cake. Nice and light, managed to demolish a slice of the huge strawberry and chocolate cake in under six minutes (between two)

I inadvertently reviewed the Sun Inn, not the Tea Rooms, and cannot figure out how to delete or change that review. So, to reiterate, this delightful little tea room offers amazingly delicious, huge, but NOT cloying or too-rich cake. the pieces are enormous, but light, fluffy, and perfectly-flavoured. and the prices are more than reasonable. A hidden treasure that I... More

The guy who founded this little eatery specializes in cakes, and they are huge. Apparently, he had his cake pans specially made at a shipyard. (Yes. A Shipyard.) These cakes are huge--probably 50% bigger than what you would normally see--and they are delicious. We had a lovely afternoon tea, with large slices of cake (I had yummy chocolate maple, my... More

We came in after a long hike, tempted to buy a cake, fell in love with the sandwiches instead. We can highly recommend the blue cheese and meat sandwich, great salad, fabulous fries. If it werent so far away we would come again. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED! Thank you so much!
