Visited Grasmere and decided to lunch here as we had previously stayed at the hotel and the food had been excellent. Wine was perfect but, no matter how much salt and pepper we added, there was no discernible flavour to the butternut squash soup. It was possibly delicious on its first outing but it had been watered down so much... More

Dined on a Sunday evening and my wife chose Sea Trout ( Brown Trout) but it was pink through and through and tasted of salmon pellet fodder from a trout farm and given my wife does not like salmon was a bit of a let down

Food was hit and miss. The portobello mushroom starter was not portobello and the sourdough bread with the soup was Granary. When we questioned this the waitress' English wasn't good enough to be able to understand. There are only 3 red wines on the menu yet they'd run out of the one we wanted. That said, the goat's cheese tart... More

...it's like having dinner in a garden centre café. With such a great menu, I can't understand why the dining room isn't decorated and set out like a restaurant. Having said that, I'm not sure how anyone could have anything else to say against the Dove. The food is just great and I've always found the service to be spot... More

Not as good as their Signature restauarant, but great food presentation and the starters were very good. The main courses that we had were not so good. The chicken & leek pie had very little actual chicken in it. The wine choice was limited too.

A group of 7 of us came in for lunch. We ordered various sandwiches and soup, having been informed that the soup today was artichoke. When it eventually arrived, the soup was pea soup; the smoked salmon, dill creme fraiche and cucumber sandwich had no dill creme fraiche; the egg mayonnaise and watercress sandwich had no watercress; the white bread... No point entering with a cheery disposition here, for although the food delivered was of a good quality and tasty, the manner of the greeting and service from the surly waiter was about as warm as a Siberian winter. When we asked for the snacks menu to compare with the full lunch menu we had been given, the first menu... More

As a dog friendly venue we went here for dinner as we had our dog with us and it was perfectly located in the centre of grasmere for an evening of dining. The good was wonderful, we had the fish and chips and the burger followed by lemon meringue pies all round and they were absolutely excellent. The service however... More

The waiter greeted us with a smile and some chat which was nice and seated us straight away. The place has a weird kind of atmosphere - it feels like you are sitting in someone's living room or conservatory. It doesn't look like a bistro, or cafe, or restaurant. Might be the combination of tables, paper napkins, decor and carpet... More
