It nestles at the base of the Old Man of Coniston. It is bigger than you might think as round the back is a small hotel. However, it is quietly on the margin of the village ideally placed for a celebratory pint when you get back from your climb. It has a good selection of local beers

After a long day of climbing we went here for dinner. It was quickly served and tasted quite good! + Dogs are allowed + Good food + Not too expensive + Seats outside - Sticky tables

Had post-walk beers here on a few sunny evenings, and the outside space is a beautiful spot to put your feet up. We chose to eat here once and the food was surprisingly good. The burger was excellent and tasty, and locally sourced from Yew Tree Farm just up the road. The piri-piri chicken special was also delicious. The bar... More

We have been here many times and the place is always very good. Previously we have enjoyed excellent food here with friendly staff and a warming fire even in the Summer. It is not cheap but well worth the time to seek it out.

Lovely meal, massive portions!! Very friendly staff. Beautiful views from the beer garden. Lovely. Much better on the inside than the outside. Very popular with walkers and cyclists.

We stopped for lunch at this place because it was recommended in a guide book. Lunch was just a selection of rather dull sandwiches several of which they didn't have ingredients for. It was completely deserted and the decor is tired and old fashioned. They had a selection of ales but didn't try these. Staff were friendly enough but we... More

Under new ownership and disappointing now. Have been visiting for over 30 years but now that it has been extended to cater for even more tourists and all the wonderful Donald Campbell memorabilia has been removed it is a disappointment

Walked up the gentle hill from the hun-hub of 'downtown' Coniston for a quiet evening meal, Enjoyed the sunny terrace and views. The meal (simple lamb kebab) was excellent and served promptly. The atmosphere however seems a little sad and we wondered if the place was for sale? However the trip serevd out purpose as a little haven from the... More

I read the notes at the start of the menu, saying not to complain via TA a week later. I completely agree with this, so mentioned to our very sweet waitress today that the vegetable crisps were so soggy that they were bendy not crunchy. Message back from kitchen "they are supposed to be like that". Didn't bother to add... More
