Add per the title really. Nothing fancy but we'll cooked, piping hot with generous portions; I've rarely seen so many scampi on one plate! Desserts were the usual classics: sticky toffee, brownie, cheesecake et al. Three of us with drinks and two desserts came to £53, which was decent value. Service front of house was uninspiring yet fine for the... More

My family and I have been visiting the Dovenby Ship for years and mostly go on a Sunday, which is always busy and for good reason. They always have Beef and Turkey on and quite often Lamb. The portions are generous but smaller ones are available. The best thing about the ship is the consistency of the food they put... More

Nice place with new owners who are very friendly and in the process of upgrading it. Food was good and served at any time (sounds strange but that is amazing for the area). It also has wifi which again is amazing for the area. When we were there you could only have 1 phone at a time on it but... More

We visited here as a group of 4, luckily had a table booked as it was a busy Saturday night. 2 of our party ordered steak which when it arrived, left them a bit disappointed. It was served on a huge plate however only really filled half and also seemed half a portion size to what we had seen go... More

Staff just stood there and chatted whilst it was a very busy night. There was a very helpful young girl who looked to be doing all of the work. Food was tasty, quite expensive though. Would come back but not for a while.

We ate here on a wednesday night, the restaurant was busy and we got one of the last tables, despite this service was very quick and the food arrived in no time. We were extremely impressed with the high quality home cooked food. We ordered the lasagne, sweet and sour chicken, gammon and beef burger. All were delicious. Portion sizes... More

What can I say the Dovenby Ship has always and still is one of the best places to eat in West Cumbria. The portion sizes are generous but small portions are avaliable. And the new owner being at the helm is just like old times. Highly recommended.

Its been a couple of years since our last visit, mainly due to the fact you used to get massive portions.. But as there are new owners, decided to give it another try this lunch time.. There was only about 12 others in, so plenty of places to sit. Waitress brought our menus, and said she would be back shortly... More

First visit to this hotel/bar/restaurant was after a long walk. Sat outside in the sunshine with coffee and cake - very good. Re-visited for an evening meal a few nights later and were not disappointed. Only point - and I raised this with the staff - was that my steak was not done to my order (although it was very... More

We missed the food serving times but had something to drink and certainly one of the best puddings we have tried! Nice location. Pleasant outside sitting area. Food looked good if a bit expensive.
