I ate at the Castle Bar three times in the last week two evenings and one lunch time. The food is delicious and on all three occasions couldn't fault it, however my only gripe is the waiting staff tend to base themselves in a central reception area adjacent to the restaurant and all gather around talking and not paying attention... A surprisingly large pub, rooms go further back than we expected. Bare boards downstairs give the pub an old fashioned feel, smaller front room then another room behind. Upstairs dining rooms, we ate in the back room which was very nicely decorated. Really friendly staff, service was good. The food was great, I had a Castle burger that came with... More

The Castle was recommended to us by the onwers of Sixcastlegate B&B just around the corned from the Castle. We are sometimes wary of recommendations but in this instance it was very well received. You will have noticed that I have headed my review with the words "The Cockermouth Tardis". Anyone familiar with Dr Who (which I hate by the... More

We had a lovely meal here on a Saturday night for my birthday. I had the sirloin steak with peppercorn sauce which was cooked to perfection and had delicious rustic chips with it . I was so full but as it was my birthday I had the sticky toffee pudding with cream which was huge but lovely . It was... More

Booked with Shane for colleagues leaving function. From the start we were looked after and the whole experience was brilliant. To keep 25 people happy is a challenge and they managed it. Small touches like decorating the room for us made a difference Thankyou Shane for looking after us so professionally would definitely recommend this venue
