Beautiful inside and out. Fantastic atmosphere when the sport's on and lots of different and comfy areas to watch it or just relax and chat. The staff are very friendly and knowledgeable and the selection and prices of the beers made me feel like a kid in a candy shop. The only drawback is that I live 200 miles away... More

Booked a table for 6 to eat in the restaurant upstairs on a busy Friday night. Great traditional pub grub in a friendly and lively atmosphere. All draught beers were £2 a pint before 7pm, a nice bonus.

Castle –outside doesn’t do inside justice. Busy establishment with plenty of rooms with a variety of TV showing different games. Beer well looked after. Billboard outside which attempted to ‘attract’ the visitors was worse than useless and if I hadn’t know it was in vicinity may well have passed by. Great beer well looked after. Plenty of Staff.,

went in after 18 years of not seeing a friend from Uni, as I was in the area. Ordered drinks, and enquired about food. The reply was unfortunately a pan of some sort was broken, so no food served downstairs??? We could go in the restaurant if we wanted food. So just had a drink and sat outside. Nice place... More

We recently had a meal here for my sons birthday. Staff were friendly and food quality was very good. I had steak and ale pie with mash and would highly recommend. There was plenty of choice on the childrens menu with an ice cream and sauce for dessert. We will definately return and would recommend to friends.

I had a delicious steak and ale pie, packed with meat, served with beautifully smooth mash potato and 3 perfectly cooked vegetables. This was accompanied by a pint of ale that was brewed locally. My wife had scampi and home made chips, which were lovely. I followed up with sticky toffee pudding and custard. A wonderful meal and I would... More

We have visited Cockermouth twice recently and have stopped in for drinks at the Castle Bar on both occasions. The husband rates the beer highly, for me the wines were fine and both of us really like the atmosphere of what is clearly a long established and traditional watering hole. The interior is dark but comfortably so and on our... More
