A surprisingly large pub, rooms go further back than we expected. Bare boards downstairs give the pub an old fashioned feel, smaller front room then another room behind. Upstairs dining rooms, we ate in the back room which was very nicely decorated. Really friendly staff, service was good. The food was great, I had a Castle burger that came with... More

The best food. The new bar manager makes a huge difference we'd ordered our food over half an hour before it arrived but we were chatting and drinking and generally relaxing in the outdoor picnic bench area and I'd forgotten we'd ordered food until he came out and asked if we'd had our starters yet. Within 10-15 mins our starters... More

Not been to Cockermouth for a couple of year and surprised it's lost a few eating places. We set out for Indian but both closed so went to chinese also closed. Castle next door to the rescue! Good menu, good tasty food and great service. Only thing was when looking at bill later I'd been charged 3 different prices for... More

Cockermouth has surprisingly few eating venues (at least ones open on a Sunday night). We were recommended the Castle Bar by the hotel staff, and it was a great pub. Nicely decorated inside with exposed stonework, friendly young staff, a decent menu with pub classics and other dishes such as chicken fajitas. Dining room on first floor so not ideal... More

We where a party of seven ladies who visited The Castle Bar today for lunch to celebrate a birthday. I found the upstairs restaurant to be nicely decorated and had a warm atmosphere. Our order was taken fairy quickly and after a small wait the food was delivered nicely presented. I selected the pulled pork, with burger and Apple in... More

On a beautiful sunny day, we followed other reviews advice and headed to the beer terrace catching some excellent evening Ray's. Very pleasantly surprised to find beer happy hour on until 7, with very good range of beers and some very tasty food to go with it. Will visit next time in area.

What a magnificent result – 3-0 – that’s three visits, three sets of food and three wins! If you can’t beat them from the terraces, join them in the ambience of bars, pitched at supporters of sports and families alike. On three Saturdays, Jan and I (and on one occasion, young man Carl) got our stalls set out (parked on... More

One of the few pubs along with the Bush serving real ale & food. This is a 16th century triple floor pub formerly called Ship Inn, has about 4 tables to front of pub & a back garden too. 6 real ales. £2 a pint between 4-7pm. Quite busy, staff friendly. Opens mainly from 11-11. Open till midnight Fri &... More
