This was the fourth time we have been for Sunday lunch and the first this year and it will be the last. The lunch was served in the overspill area dining room and we had a view of a full skip outside the window, they were painting whilst we were eating so the fumes drifted in. The lunch had very... A quaint B&B in Ambleside, perfectly fine for our family of 4. Nice rooms and walking distance to central Amblesides shops and cafes, just a shame they were renovating whilst we stayed.

Enjoyed a pleasant afternoon tea here. We requested one gluten free and one regular afternoon tea. Staff were very accommodating and made half gluten free (left half of picture). Nice variety of savoury nibbles. Would have been nicer to have slightly larger scones, and for them to have been warmed up slightly. Afternoon tea was disturbed by noisy refirbishment works... More

Excellent in all respects. Very hospitable welcoming friendly service without being too intrusive. Top end food in a relaxed setting. We were not residents at the hotel but we're still delighted to be able to enjoy the relaxed atmosphere of the comfortable spacious lounges before and after an excellent dinner. The new owners and chef have done really well in... More

Rothay Manor is within walking distance of central Ambleside, but captures the ambience of a more remote country house hotel like Sharrow Bay or White Moss. And it has a car park - which immediately gives it a head start over any other Ambleside venue. Inside there's a friendly front of house team, a couple of lounges for a pre-dinner... More

Lovey restaurant with a pleasant outlook. Fine food served to a very high standard. Not a cheap meal and exclusive courses so perhaps not everyone's choice. Dining several evenings one after the other could prove a problem for your waistline!

I normally visit Rothay Manor for their famous buffet afternoon teas. I had dined in the restaurant, but some years ago. Tonight's excellent dinner was a giant leap forward both in terms of quality and presentation. A main course of "hoggit" (year old lamb) was beautifully tender. The rhubarb cheesecake that followed was a work of art. Add to this... More

We have eaten at Rothay Manor for probably the last 10 years, and have always enjoyed the experience. We returned this year and had Afternoon Tea yesterday and dinner tonight. On both occasions we were disappointed. Afternoon tea last year consisted of an initial serving of sandwiches/quiches/scotch eggs etc. and then scones and then cakes with the best Bakewell tarts... I was sorry to read the previous reviews from disappointed customers. We found our afternoon tea experience at Rothay Manor to be fair value for money (particularly, when compared with other hotels in the immediate area). Yes, there were items that were a little too sweet for our palettes and, indeed, the bread on some of the sandwiches was quite... More
