We were first to arrive on the evening of the 4th of January 2023, needless to say it was not long before all tables were occupied in the wonderfully cozy and yet elegant establishment. We were cheerily greeted and shown to our table where we...found a personalized letter from chef Ryan, the envelope sealed in wax, what a touch. We selected a delicious Pinot noir of Australian-(Victoria) origin and a delicious Sauvignon Blanc from New Zealand. Firstly I must congratulate our service team who were knowledgeable and very attentive without ever imposing on our special night. Secondly the culinary journey we then began was one never to be forgotten. Described as a journey around Cumbria we were treated to some of the finest cuisine I have ever sampled. I have had the pleasure of eating in around 50 Michelin starred restaurants globally, Old Stamp House is up there with the highest achievers. Black pudding bon bons, duck liver, arctic char, last wolf beer bread, scallops, chalk stream trout, Cumbrian red deer, and a brace of desserts to die for. I would happily add full descriptives for each dish however I simply do not have time. Needless to say this evening was faultless. Food treated with kindness, elegantly plated and powerfully loaded with flavors that send the taste buds into a frenzy. Personally I could live on the scallops with potted shrimps and spiced mead veloute and the Cumbrian red deer which was cooked with the touch of a genius to perfection. Chef Ryan is an exceptional talent who clearly pours love into his food in torrents matched only by the torrential rains Cumbria is enduring this week. We were lucky enough to go on NYE… bookings open online 3 months out. There are many things that I live about this restaurant. Firstly before you even arrive the telephone you a few days earlier to check distort requirements, very thoughtful. Once there the...atmosphere is cosy, not stuffy as in some Mitchelin restaurants. The food is outstanding I really appreciate how the non meat eater food was equally as thought out as theirs. 3things on the menu were mind blowing and the best I’ve had (I’ve eaten in a lot of restaurants) The service was friendly and there were a lot of local people eating there which is always a great sign. After winning the bet restaurant in the world - the old stamp house really had to impress but it really delivered! The staff were so friendly and we had such a wonderful evening that we will never forget. The food was absolutely incredible and the...wine pairing was plentiful and with lots of lovely wines. Happy birthday to me! Got lucky with a cancellation for lunch for two a couple of weeks ago and given we live less than an hour away it was a complete no-brainer. It's reputation might be off the scale but it is very very good....Lunch was excellent without being overwhelming. The trout was my fave but also loved the souffle with the birthday message 🤩 The paired wine was also excellent. It's run by lovely friendly Cumbrian folk, and is not at all pretentious as other Michelin starred restaurants can be. My only gripe would be the feeble hand drier in the toilets 🖐️💦More

We absolutely love a tasting menu and this one is right up there with L’Enclume , Northcote and the Gilpin. From start to finish a fabulous experience of exquisite food. I loved the personalised letter explaining each dish fully and where it was sourced. We...had the evening menu with a lovely bottle of English Bacchus. Our favourites were the hand dived scallop with potted shrimps and spiced veloute and the Cumbrian red deer, with hen of the wood ravioli, that was to die for, both dishes were really savoured. The lunch tasting menu was excellent. There was a variety of starters, a broth, 2 mains-cod and venison- and dessert. The broth with lamb was delicious. The venison was melt-in-mouth good. The cod was beautifully cooked. The dessert was an event - a pear soufflé,...which was drenched with a chocolate glaze. The portions are not large but the whole menu is enough to fill you up. Booking is compulsory. Would highly recommend.More

We had an excellent lunch at the Old Stamp House, Michelin star restaurant. The ambience was warm and cosy, staff were attentive and friendly and described each dish for us. The menu was a set menu of extremely good fine dining cuisine.

Every course was cooked to perfection and delicious. The venison was melt in the mouth, just perfect. Great that they use locally sourced ingredients. Staff attentive and enthusiastic about the food. I cannot recommend enough, we will be back.
