Visited with daughter, partner and wife. Very difficult to access, road works everywhere. Food OK , no Sauvigon Blanc on wine list, Service excellent, Lunch menu very limited choice, but you can go for the ludicrously expensive a la carte. Avoid.

Not been for a while due to overseas commitments and I've missed it! Took two staff along with a client who was extremely impressed with the venue, service and not least the food. Interesting starters and great Fillet steaks cooked to perfection as was the Turbot. I'm not one for Pudding but the Baked Alaska ( perfect ) is not... More

This is a great space, with loads of atmosphere, and it's always busy and gets good reviews. However I have been on many occasions and sadly have watched their standards decline. The service has become amateur, little things like the waiter not knowing which guest has ordered each plate and having to ask, to more important things like the sommelier... More

Visiting 1884 for Sunday lunch yesterday for my mum's 60th. There was a group of 8 of us including a toddler. I cannot fault the food or the staff at this restaurant. Everyone loved their lunch and the staff were so attentive. We sent my 2 yr old daughter's meal back as the beef was a bit rare (which was... More

We visited as a family party of 6 to celebrate my birthday and the evening was faultless. My starter of cod and my main course of venison were superb and my family equally enjoyed their meals. The service was great and I was particularly impressed by the wine list and the gin menu! I even had a Tanquerry 10 gin... More

By far the best lobster starter I have ever eaten. So delicate, beautifully presented and to top it off a wicked oyster. Please save room for the Dexter rib eye .... Stunning. Attention to detail is something else here as is the service.

Obviously 1884 is getting a well deserved great reputation. Trouble is: tried to geek a table three weeks in advance for an October date: fully booked until nearly Christmas. If you cannot get in here when you want, try Al Porto across the dock. If you can get in, you are likely to be delighted, though many pounds (money) lighter.

The restaurant scene has grown incredibly in Hull over the last decade with lots of good places to eat. 1884 Dock Street remains my overall favourite, great food, wines and beers. They offer a special lunch time menu that is both reasonably priced and excellent tasting. Great place to go with a loved ones or a bunch of friends. Try... More
