Completely bland and inoffensive. The food was expertly microwaved and the service was nothing if not perfunctory. The barman was a great bloke who answered the phone to a stranger in a Scottish accent for no reason and was dedicated enough to stand over us to ensure we finished our last inch of beer (after 15 minutes drinking up time).... Our preferred pub and lunch venue in Canterbury. Excellent service, good menu, good selection of beers and lagers, great local draught cider.

Canterbury is a wonderful city and this is a wonderful old pub. The selection of drinks is impressive and the staff friendly. The food is excellent although a little pricey. You get what you pay for and the food is very good.

Went yesterday after visiting the Parrot & The Limes. The Shakespeare is definitely more of a pub environment but I really did enjoy the food! The bubbly waitress was really nice and friendly. Steak was good but not many choices left for desert. You dont need to book.

We have visited the Shakespeare on many occasions, often taking visitors and we have always enjoyed the food, especially the boards. Yesterday our daughter was visiting and we decided to pop in for lunch. We ordered the picnic board - "A feast for 2, tidbits for 4", along with some extras. Service was very pleasant but incredibly slow. When the... More

The Shakespeare was recommended to us on a Sunday evening. They were out of roasts at 6pm so we had to choose from the boring part of the menu. The food quality was way below average, chips were soggy and didn't taste good, the burger was overcooked, and the service was awfully slow considering how empty the place was and... More

Lovely pub in the middle of Canterbury, popped in for a drink and after seeing the menu decided to have lunch, the food was very nice, staff very helpful and really liked the decor of the place.

This pub was recommended to us by our hotel reception and it didn't disappoint. The service was excellent, the waiter overheard us say we needed to be somewhere at 2.00 and ensured the service was quick and efficient. Excellent choice of something light or more substantial, would highly recommend the open sandwich but you need a portion of fries to... More

Whilst very easy to miss as walking down the street (even when looking for it), the food is second to none. Great set up, staff friendly, food is always cooked to order and fresh. Amazing selection and will accommodate various allergy problems. One of Cantebury's real gems.

My friend took me here because the veggie sharing plate used to be really nice, but they changed it and now it's way too small. "A feast for two" it says on the menu. We each had two falafel bits, two deep fried feta things (small and delicious) and the rest was olives, humous, sun dried tomatoes, loads of minted... More
