I attended this restaurant a couple of weeks ago for a group choir dinner - approximately 30 of us. We were in their function room upstairs and had to make our menu choices in advance. This resulted in the staff knowing exactly who had chosen what. The food was imaginative and waiting staff could not have been more pleasant -... More

We visited cafe du soleil to celebrate a friends birthday and had a fantastic evening, everyone enjoyed it. The food was lovely, I had the four ducks to start, mussels for a main and the apple tart to finish. The staff were friendly and attentive, they made sure we had drinks and provided great service! I would visit again! Thanks!... More

Went for a meal at the last minute and the food and service was really good. Good choice of food and quite relaxed and casual but good quality. We would return.

Perhaps not the best location and from what I understand used to be an old nightclub. Nevertheless, place sits beautiful by the river and offers nice seating both inside and outside. Very friendly staff and good service. I had the roasted chicken in Parma ham together with a risotto cake - all delicious!

Have eaten here many times at all times of the year with parties of 2-8. We always have fantastic service and a good selection of vegetarian and meat dishes. The pizzas are truly amazing. My only small criticisms would be that the menu doesn't really seem to change (not a problem if it's a one-off visit) and the puddings, whilst... More

We went to our friend's birthday celebration on Saturday night and thoroughly enjoyed our meal which was of a high standard. The waiting staff were very friendly and efficient. We liked this restaurant so much that my husband and I returned the following evening and had another excellent meal.

2 of us ordered beefburger well done. When they arrived they we both very red in the middle, so we asked to be further cooked. They came back slightly more cooked but still red. So they went back again and again came back red in the middle. From the attitude of the waitress is was obvious we would get no... More

We were recommended to try Cafe du Soleil by a local chef who suggested this was the best place to eat in Canterbury. It is in a gorgeous setting next to the river and very popular with locals and tourists. The restaurant lived up to its reputation. The atmosphere is very welcoming and friendly, the service excellent and the food... More

It was graduation day at the UNI so they has every excuse as they were packed ,quite the reverse, the set lunch for £14.95 for 2 courses was simply great and the service from the young lady waitresses was both friendly and prompt. Add to that the great setting by the river and you could want for no more. Do... More

Description
Cafe du Soleil is situated beside the river Stour in Canterbury occupying a former 18th century wool store and is accessed by its own bridge over the river. The building was restored with a grant from English Heritage and showcases the extensive use of reclaimed building material from the 14C city wall.

Our cuisine draws influence from Provence in southern France, and from Italy, to create a modern Mediterranean cuisine. The menu changes with the seasons, and much of our food is cooked in our wood burning oven, fed with locally sourced wood from managed forest.
