I had heard a lot about this place and was taken their prior to Xmas. There is a lovely Bar at the entrance which was busy with a party so we went direct to the table. There were four of us and we each had different choices from the menu. Each one of us agreed that the food was excellent.... More

We had a lovely meal here on New Year's Day. The restaurant was quiet but the quality of the food was excellent. We had the early bird menu and recommend the tandoori chicken tikka starter and chicken curry. We had extras and the naan bread was delicious. Definitely going again

As a family birthday celebration, I was introduced to this restaurant. I have to declare at the outset that Indian is not my favourite cuisine, but sometimes it can be spectacularly good, and this was definitely one of those times! The restaurant is exceptionally clean, almost with an air of a French Bistro, with high quality white linen, glass partitioned... More

2nd visit to Chez Mumtaj. It was a wonderful meal. I started with the seared foie gras & had the lamb shank to follow. The decor, the food & the service were all faultless. Also, unlike last time the wait between courses was just right. Very very highly recommended!

Our second evening visit here, one midweek, one Saturday. The latter being very busy and service may get slower as it gets busier. We booked at 7 and left at 10 without being hurried but restaurant was full. Our service and menu choices were great, the staff friendly and we had a great evening, all of us would return. Only... The restaurant has two menus, one, the more traditional, is only available Sunday to Thursday, and it's very good. The other menu is more contemporary and a mixture of Indian and modern European. Both are great and use high quality ingredients which are cooked with care and attention. The restaurant itself has a small cocktail bar and a private dining... More

Slow service no space -felt rushed to finish, a friend of mine was told his food wasn't gluten free after us double checking, only to find after he had eaten it that it did in fact contain gluten! Then he received a beef dish with cling film still on the beef- the manager wasn't very apologetic and frankly didn't care-... More

Took a client out for pre Christmas dinner - Well without exception this is the best restaurant in St Albans bar non. In fact having eaten at many Michelin stared Indian restaurants in London I would say the food created by Chad is as good if not better. Well worth the short trip out of town to experience the delights... More

On Saturday this was my first time to Chez Mumtaj, it was recommended by a friend who had been a few times before. There were 12 of us and we had reserved the private dining room - there was plenty of space (the table was huge!) and the food was just fantastic. A great time was had by all -... More

Had been here once before several months ago on a Sunday and had a lovely meal with friends. So delighted to hear the wife had booked to return with another couple who had not been before - this time on a Saturday night. However the Saturday menu was quite different from Sunday and they explained that they do vary the... More
