We had some friends around and decided at the last minute to have lunch somewhere in Hertford. We looked up some places and found this bar/pub/restaurant along the canal in Hertford. It looked really charming from the outside and was gluten-free so we though this would be a good choice. The waitresses were very welcoming, attentitive and although we had... More

Had a day off last week so after a nice lunch in town decided to pay a visit to the barge. This has always been one of my favourite bars in Hertford to spend some time although rather on the pricey side for the town but still normally a nice relaxing venue to enjoy a drink or two. The bar... More

I went to the Old Barge on a Friday lunchtime with friends. It was quiet, but there was a real fire going which gave the pub a lovely cosy warm atmosphere. The landlady and staff were really friendly and attentive. We all had burgers, which were of a good standard and we all enjoyed. The only downside was that the... More

Delicious slow cooked beef brisket followed by treacle tart and custard, with charming and helpful staff and a lovely atmosphere on a cold and rainy Sunday. Can't beat it!

Attended the quiz to try it out as a new weekly venture with friends, and felt very let down by the hostility projected towards new groups. Despite using our phone for personal reasons, our £10 contribution to the quiz was quite happily taken off us, and the organisers waited until after the quiz had ended and we had spent more... More

Dear Charlotte, We are sorry you didn't enjoy our fabulous quiz. The rules about not using your mobile were clearly printed on your answer sheet. You were politely asked to refrain from using your mobiles, as this would lead to you being disqualified, three times during the quiz (not after) before you were disqualified, which is more than a fair... Had Sunday lunch at the Old Barge a short walk from a friends new home, great location by the canal. We found the staff to be friendly and enjoyed the food, roast pork/beef looked good, though I was disappointed with the fact at 1pm they'd run out of my main choice from the board! I'd have no hesitation to return... More

the staff were friendly and helpful, food was very average pub style, but quite affordable so we couldn't really expect more.
