This restaurant was booked on behalf of our lip reading group. They were told that we all (except our tutor) had hearing problems and as a result of this they gave us a sectioned of part at the back of the restaurant with a round table and table cloths with a view of the outside. We requested the music and... More

Seeing as my wife had her review deleted, I thought I might as well write another one about the trip we had! To sum up, the food and service was OK, however what disappointed us was the presence of a male manager who kept barking orders his staff, and created and overwhelmingly strange atmosphere-we asked one of the staff about... We decided to book a table. Given the impression that tables were limited. Place was half empty. Menu was ok but kind of limited. Wine, which we were asked about on numerous occasions, starts at £19 for a house red. Really. Food was fine, but the place made us feel like we should retire to our hotel room after dinner.... More

My wife and I were in the area and just wanted a quiet restaurant with good food and service, and we were certainly not disappointed! Spotlessly clean, attentive staff and great food. Certainly looking forward to our next visit!

Not the first time Ive been here, last time was about six months ago. This time was totally different, new management, staff and chef. Big difference. Much more welcoming, attentive polite professional staff. Menu varied with good choices. Quality of food was high and cooked to an excellent standard. Well done Chef! Overall a very pleasant and relaxed evening. Certainly... More

Decided to share my experience of this place, very good food, the restaurant was relatively quiet, (3 -4 tables being occupied) but waiting more than 15 minutes for anyone to take our drinks order and hand us menus is just unacceptable. We ordered and and more than 30 minutes later our starters had not arrived, the staff were basically invisible... More

Took my wife and family for her birthday lunch. Restaurant smelt musty and unventilated. Service was so slow - 20mins to get a menu as long again before drink order taken. Only about 3 tables occupied but staff invisible. Wife's fish thankfully was nice and my sons steak was OK but uncooked pasta disappointing and lamb chops too fatty and... More

I had my retirement lunch at The Whistling Duck on the 20th May 2016. Our party consisted of 7 people. We all had all 3 courses and everyone enjoyed what they had ordered. Their was plenty to eat and we all had different meals. The 2 young waitresses were very attentive and pleasant. Excellent food. Great service and a lovely... More

On the doorstep of the historic town of Hertford, The Whistling Duck is a unique dining experience, complete with an A La Carte restaurant, lounge bar and tranquil riverside terrace. You'll find us tucked away on the banks of the meandering River Lea, overlooking the charming Hertfordshire countryside.

Head Chef Marlon Erne and his talented team craft a seasonal menu of Modern British cuisine, full of innovative dishes and outstanding produce. Marlon's training in the Philippines and love of full Asian flavours also makes a feisty appearance in a special dish or two.

Whether you're joining us for a relaxed lunch, business meeting, evening of fine food or a chilled glass of Prosecco on the terrace, we look forward to offering you a warm welcome to our riverside oasis.
