On a cold November afternoon we were looking for a cosy upmarket restaurant in Winchester. We followed the advice of Trip Advisor and went to Chesil Rectory. Without a reservation we were shown to a lovely table adjacent to the log fire. There were two of us dining, with one of us choosing the a la carte and the other... More

What a pleasure, what simple quality, what superb cooking, what a lovely place with a view down the high street framed by King Alfred, quiet, but alive, good atmosphere excellent service, and three courses for less than I paid for one dish in London. I'll happily take the train from London to have lunch here.

Booked a table as a surprise for my mum's birthday after we had looked longingly through the windows for a number of years. We weren't disappointed. The atmosphere was great (beams, candles, open fires), the food was delicious and the staff lovely. Worth special mention was the duck main - it was absolutely beautiful - and the birthday treat which... More

My friend and I were stopping over in Winchester before visiting Portsmouth historic dockyard. Being a foodie I wanted a top class restaurant with great food, and the CR did not disappoint. The ambience is calm and intimate if a tad gloomy, the staff are lovely and our waiter was just lovely and very helpful especially as my friend is... More

We had a lovely meal here last week. The restaurant is old and quirky, the staff were very good and the food was lovely.

We pre-booked our party for lunch and were given exclusive use of an upstairs room which allowed us to have great and loud conversations across the table. (Apologies to other diners). We had excellent service and great food. Highly recommended.

The food and the service are impeccable, they truly can't be faulted. The atmosphere and the quaintness of the building are also worth a mention, it felt like a really special night. What let the experience down (and the reason we won't be back next time we're in Winchester) is the price of the wine - not a single red... More

WOW! This place is AMAZING! Such a delight. The décor is beautiful. The staff are so friendly and attentive. The food was amazing in every way and at such a good price. I can’t recommend this place enough. I look forward to bring more friends ere to dine.

On a day out for shoping in Winchester I made a booking for lunch at the Chesil. We have been to Winchester a few times and always meant to lunch here. Finally done it. I will only add that the food was excellent and the service was equally as good with very attentive waitresses.
