We visited just before Christmas and were welcomed on arrival as a party of 5 and were amazingly placed into the private dining room on the upper floor. The gin menu was a good starting point with each of us trying a different gin and tonic variation. The food menu had enough of a choice for the meat eaters to... More

A beautiful old historic building but the food just didn't quite live up to expectation. The ballotine of rabbit was nice enough but served with toast that dominated the plate, no real finesse. The bream was beautifully cooked but the rest of the plate although it looked pretty lacked any depth of flavour The rib of beef was disappointing -... More

Atmospheric building, nice service, pleasant staff (apart from one who gabbled so quickly she was nearly unintelligible). Like many upmarket restaurants, they so reduce the gravy it overpowers the meat (we had venison and beef). Anything other than plonk, by the glass worked out at nearly £30 a bottle. Nice environment but we'll not be returning. Nice experience but not... More

Chesil Rectory is a charming restaurant, well located in the centre of Winchester serving a wide selection of locally sourced products. With low ceilings and rickety floors you get a real sense of history. Our Sunday lunch was not quite the fine dining experience we had hoped for from a place such as this.

A absolute disaster. Requested a nice table and was advised they had reserved us one. Ended up at top of stairs facing gents toilet. Waited over 30 mins for starters. Wife did enjoy her main course. I had to return mine as it was cold. By time replacement came wife had almost finished hers. Replacement was just about warm enough... More

We ate at the Chesil for Sunday lunch. The restaurant is housed in a real historic building dating back to the 1400s so has low ceilings and original features so plenty of atmosphere. It is also at the bottom end of the city and next to a car pak which is very convenient. The Sunday lunch menu was reasonably varied... More

Reservation a must in summer months. Beautiful, historical building. Amazing menu with thoughtful staff. Easy walking distance from city center. We would definitely visit again.

We came here last night as a group of 6. From the nice initial greeting, to the perfect table, great atmosphere, friendly service, and good food it was a perfect evening. Highly recommended!

We had tried to get in here once before but they were full. But you know what? They were so genuinely sympathetic and helpful it just made us more detemined to dine here. Hubby booked this as a birthday surprise for me. Before I gush I just need to get this out the way...it's been voted one of the most... More

Came here on recommendation from site and wasn't disappointed! Rustic settings and beautiful food. Menu was different, a British theme but more refined and wonderful flavours. Loved my Fish Cake with butter tartare sauce! Would go again!
