We booked the chisel rectory for a surprise 60th birthday for my mum. In the run up to the event the staff were so helpful and accommodating. On the night the staff could not be better...they looked after us so well. The food was exceptional and everyone enjoyed their choices. The setting is beautiful and we were allowed to decorate.... We visited late August having the rare chance of a baby sitter. We often eat out in Winchester, and have eaten at the Chesil Rectory a few times over the years, way back to the time it had different owners and a Michelin star. We have always enjoyed the food and ambience, service is good too. On this occasion however... More

I took my wife here for her birthday treat meal and we were very happy with the decision. The staff were very helpful and pleasant to us and took time to explain what was going on in the restaurant that evening (there was a large group party that was slowing down the kitchen briefly). The aperitifs were excellent (great gin... More

Thoroughly enjoyed our evening. A varied menu lead to well presented dishes, all nicely served in pleasant comfortable historic surroundings. Particularly commendable was the assistant manager (uncertain of her name), who was competent and pleasant with an impressive knowledge of wine. Bravo to all at Chesil Rectory!

Delicious food in a very pleasant and well decorated 15th Century building. Pleasant waiter who went the extra mile for a Birthday celebration meal and made the experience and atmosphere most pleasant and enjoyable. The food was absolutely delicious and worth every penny of what was a more a la carte menu. We had fresh breads, creamy salmon tartar, red... More

We were bought this as a special thank you treat by our daughter and new son-in-law! Exceeded all expectations. Very warm and personal welcome, as if they knew we were coming! Did not feel rushed at all and the young man who served us was attentive, knowledgeable and friendly, without being creepy and servile. Food was delicious and although not... More

Loved the atmosphere in this historic building dating back 300 years. So much history and original features still in place. Very small starters but then great portions for the main course. My duck was delicious and the chocolate dessert - wow! One criticism would be that we would have preferred that the food come out slower so that we could... More

Food was just ok, service was just ok, high prices demanded way better than ok. Really expected better. Won't be hurrying back for a second try
