What a great place. In a very old building and the food is just excellent. Make sure you make a reservation.

Came here with colleagues and had a beautiful dinner. It's a great cosy building, would love to come back with my husband. The food was outstanding (baked cod delicious!) and good wine list. The set menu was varied and good prices for such a nice restaurant. Very romantic and looking forward to a visit in winter when the fires are... More

Just had the Prix fixe lunch, great value, lovely food, prompt and courteous service, some low calorie options as well. So unusual in a tourist hotspot, thoroughly recommended.

We don't eat regularly at the Chesil rectory, reserving our patronage for special occasions such as anniversaries and birthdays for instance. We have always found that the restaurant lives up to expectations, but unfortunately, the edge was taken off on this last occasion for us a bit. Firstly the good points. The food was as good as ever (except for... More

My husband and I have been here a number of times and love this restaurant. The food is always excellent and the service is friendly and welcoming. We came on a roasting hot day in July and the staff were working very hard trying to keep everyone cool , given the age of the building they can't exactly put in... More

A beautiful building which is one of the oldest an most charming in Winchester. The great smell f well cooked food greets you as you walk in and it goes on from strength to strength from there. Just walk over the bridge and you can't miss it

This restaurant has the benefits of the medieval building which make it such an intimate setting. As a result it is the perfect location for someone with hearing loss and tinnitus who find most public areas a very unpleasant experience. Both if us have food allergies and, although some mistakes were made, the staff bent over backwards to correct them... More

We had lunch here on sixth of August, staff are welcoming, friendly, well informed attentive but not obtrusive. Obviously it has good kitchen staff as the food is top quality, well prepared and cooked. This is complimented by a very good and varied wine list, the provision of a selection of good wines by the glass was much appreciated as... More

The Chesil is always on the short list for a special dinner. We have had many great family celebrations and parties there and the staff are that great combination of friendly and informative and not too pompous. The early menu is great value too.

We visited for dinner Thursday evening and cannot say a bad word- everything from the service to the food was great! Very tasty, beautifully presented food made by talented chefs and served by friendly knowledgable waiting staff. Thank you to Doug and his team for a lovely evening.
