This pub is situated in a quiet location but only a minute from the cathedral and shops. The meals are extremely generous and the staff friendly and helpful. I will definitely going again.

We stayed as well as enjoying a late lunch, Friendly staff, lovely surroundings. The traditional interior was a welcome cool environment after a long, hot drive to Winchester. Limited menu as we arrived late for lunch but still no issue getting something we liked look of. Decent G&T menu promoted but would have been nice to get it a little... More

Good and pleasant place to eat. Local dishes . Fish were tasty and fresh, soups were superb. 4 people for 80 GBP is fair for the good food that was served . Highly recommend .

Had our Saturday evening meal in The Old Vine. The service was good with a tasty menu. A variety of starters on offer with good wines. Nothing too much trouble for the staff. Very enjoyable evening with friends.

Lovely looking pub.. not impressed being charged £9.10 for 1 pint and a 1/2 .. when another customer gets 2 full pints for £10 .. won't be here again

Hello, thanks for your feedback. From your comments I can't be sure what you ordered, but a pint and a half of our most expensive beer (Hoegaarden) is £8.40. So it appears a staff member charged you incorrectly (probably for two pints, rather than a pint and half - easily done when the buttons for pint and half are next... More

Great pint of Butcombe here, very well kept. We had lunch, a bit expensive but very nice, top quality ingredients. Word of warning though, even though they have Cask Marque sign outside and the QR code inside the pub, this place is NOT Cask Marque accredited, the code won't scan. Does make you wonder what else they're lying about.

In reply to your comments: I've just come off the phone from Cask Marque: we most certainly ARE accredited, and have been for many years now. They are apparently experiencing some IT problems and not all accredited outlets are coming up on their website and app at the moment. They promise to have this rectified in the near future. Please... More

I used this restaurant to meet with a group of college friends. It was easy to reserve a table on line and they were flexible with our arrival time and numbers as we were unsure how many were attending. We were treated well, served efficiently but not rushed in anyway. The food was fabulous. We all had different things and we... More

My wife and I visited Winchester on the spur of the moment and decided to have lunch at The Old Vine. This is a hotel but also serves as a pub. My wife is vegetarian and choosey about her food but the ploughman's got a thumbs up. A good selection of salad with a light dressing together with Apple bread... More

Thanks very much! We hope to welcome you back soon. Pint glasses are often oversize, with markings below the top of the glass, so that a head can be accommodated. Without seeing the glass I can't be 100% sure but it's likely that the barman was pouring to the line. If not then you are fully within your rights to... More

Outside the cathedral, across the green. Restaurant where you are wise to book or take a chance in the public bar, getting a table. Four good real ales. Excellent food including for veggies. Nice and friendly. Seats and tables outside for a sunny day and people watching.
