Warm, welcoming relaxing place to come and chill.Myself and my partner have come here on many occasions.Friendly, welcoming staff , great place to come and warm up and relax when it's cold outside. One of our favourite places.

We went there with some friends who had come to visit. Having heard that it was the go to place for good british pub food. We thought we would give it a go. We ordered the smoked duck breast [starter], seared fillet of sea bass (risotto) [main] x2, the British chicken pie[main], fish and chips[main] and 2 items of the... More

Hi there, thank you for taking the time to write such a detailed review. Quite a few things in here I find troubling and there is a thing or two I will need to pass on to our suppliers. I apologise for the low quality food that you received during your visit. We will take all of your comments on... More

A warm welcome from the Manager, and staff! We booked Lunch to have a good Girlie Chat over a chilled glass of wine. Very attentive waitress. The Cod, and Scampi were served hot and fresh. With crispy batter and triple cooked chips. The pub/ restaurant was warm and cosy. Big log fire in Main Bar. Looking forward to returning soon.

Visited for an early supper. Could not book, as restaurant full, but there was space available in the bar. Had the lamb shanks, but the vegetables were sent back twice as they were cold. Helpful staff eventually replaced them with a steaming tureen of veg. Had they been served liked this from the start then our rating would have been... More

2nd time I've been here. The mains were lovely - we had a range. Sadly not all options on the menu were available as we were on the 2nd sitting - my son was disappointed. Everyone's pudding was nice except mine - fruit crumble (undercooked fruits, raw rhubarb, mixed with jammy stuff, vaguely warmed through rather than baked in oven,... More

Hi thanks for the feedback, Sorry to read about the crumble and I will pass on the feedback to the team. I'm not sure which options you're referring to however if it was the specials unfortunately that is the very manner of a special. The chefs only make so many and when they're gone they're gone until next time. We... More

A saturday lunchtime in Southampton is often a hard time to find a place to sit and eat. The cowherds offers a quieter, more traditional eatery out of the busy city. Stopped here after some early xmas shopping and was not disappointed! Plenty of parking spaces. Quick to be seated. Lunch time menu is a perfect choice of small bites... More

Hi Maddy, thanks for the review. I'm glad you enjoyed the food and thank you for your patience. When busy it can take a little longer to cook up our fresh food rather than the microwave grub most pubs serve. Many thanks, Matthew More

Prebooked table as was advised the Cowherd got very busy and this proved the case on our Sunday lunchtime visit. Service was excellent throughout from our arrival when we were shown immediately to our table to our departure. Menu choice was very good and should suit most tastes. I chose the homemade carrot soup which was hearty and piping hot.... More

We have been to this pub many times for family meals, which have been ok. However we went for my Aunty's birthday and honestly the food was terrible. All of our dinners were cold, the majority of us had roast dinners. It literally tasted like they had reheated all of the food in the microwave which is unacceptable when your... More

Hi thank you for spending the time to leave us some feedback. Firstly let me reassure you that the meals were not re-heated in a microwave and I would really like to apologise for the cold meals and the overall poor experience you had on Sunday. I'm surprised that the replacement meals were cold as they were literally steaming on... More
