Pretty busy but good atmosphere and nice to sit outside and enjoy the weather. Food was good, pizza especially but took a while as it was busy.

Hi, thanks for the review. Yeah absolutely, the whole Common is certainly popular when the sun is shining! Have a good day, Matthew More

A group of five visited late on Sat afternoon. We had made a booking, and was shown to a table after a short wait. We then waited 10 minutes before we could order drinks, so we also know what we wanted to eat and ordered the food at the same time. The drinks took another 10 minutes. It was 40... More

Hi Martin, I'm sorry to read that you waiting for longer than appropriate during your visit. Our pub however is very large and can look quiet when actually it is very busy but just with everyone spread out and outside, especially in the late afternoon before our dinner staff start shift. I hope you give us another try. Kind regards,... More

Very expensive although food is just about okay. Always queues at the bar as there are never enough staff serving. Very poor customer service, never seems to be any organisation in terms of pre-booked tables, overall I would avoid.

Hi Rob, thanks for the review. Our bar trade does seem to come in waves which is hard to staff-up for and I find the bar always looks busier than it actually is due to everyone queuing in a line rather than crowding around the bar like in a typical pub. Many Thanks, Matthew More

Booked for graduation day family lunch for 6. Really easy to park. Excellent service from pleasant and professional staff. Food was re-heated and ok but could have been better. Hunters chicken needed a steak knife to cut through - obviously reheated maybe even from last night. Ordered Caesar Salad without anchovies but the anchovies were left on - previously prepared... Hi Steve, thank you for the feedback. I firstly wanted to reassure you about how your food was prepared. Our food safety policy is very strict and we certainly do not reheat chicken breasts, nor do we save it from the night before. Each dish is cooked from fresh; chicken breasts on the grill and the salads are made to... More

Great food in traditional surroundings and warm and welcoming atmosphere. Will defiantly be returning during the next 80's Rock Southampton event

A visit to the cowherds is always a disappointment. Despite its excellent location on the common, the management do not take advantage of the excellent opportunity. The service is always slow and disjointed. The bar staff are painfully slow to serve customers and the waiting staff just seem poorly trained. It's a pity because this has the potential to be... Hello Chloe, thank you for the feedback. Our team work as fast as possible but sometimes we can find ourselves needing a few extra team members during peak times. We try our best to staff up efficiently but sometimes factors beyond our control can come into play. I'm sorry that you always find us a disappointment and I do agree... More

My partner and I visited The Cowherds restaurant earlier this evening for our first anniversary together. We arrived at around 8pm and waited to be seated. Although it wasn't massively clear whether we would be seated to a table or not we managed to ask a friendly bearded chap at the bar. We sat down on a very comfortable table... More

We pitched up here at the request of our student daughter. We arrived to chaos as there was both a local festival in the vicinity and a university open day. We absolutely dreaded going in to be honest. When we said it was our intention to eat we were able to park at the back of the premises and once... More

Hello, Thank you for the review :) Yes it was rather chaotic outside on that day! I'm pleased to read that overall your experience was good, the menu you ordered from was only implemented a couple of day prior to your visit so I apologise for the overcooked halibut. Kindest Regards, Matthew More

What a lovely place to eat. Plenty of car parking, especially behind the pub. Such a wide choice on the menu. We did book a table in advance, mainly because there were 7 of us. The wheelchair access is super too. We were well looked after, the Staff were very attentive and extremely polite. If you do take the plunge,... More

Very friendly service I thought, not too hasty or slow. Plenty of people in the restaurant giving a nice background buzz, with all ages. I had a Caesar salad with salmon which was a really quite big fillet, and the whole thing was very tasty. The whole party agreed that their food was great, including the desserts.
