Once a favourite haunt when I worked in Southampton, this was my first visit for many years. A very good atmosphere with attentive and friendly service. The menu was excellent with decent variety. Food was excellent with decent sized portions at very reasonable cost. Well worth visiting and situated literally right on the fringe of Southampton Common with adequate parking.

Haven't visited for month, decided to go for a couple of drinks in the cosy environment. Sat down with our drinks in front of fire, went to put a log on the fire only to be told no by the bar staff as they would have to wait for it to burn out before they could go home (it was... More

Hi David, thank you for spending the time to leave us some valuable feedback. I can't quite understand why the team member wouldn't allow yourself to throw a log on the fire because this isn't something myself or any of the other management team have enforced. If you wanted to throw a log on at 10:15 that really wouldn't have... More

On a brief visit to Southampton, we had lunch ... one starter and three different mains (with a drink each). The food was excellent ... good portions and very reasonable (especially considering the quality). Pub very welcoming and comfortable ... open fires and very cosy. Staff very friendly ... we sat in the "waited" restaurant - good service. And, the... More

We had a family dinner on New Year's Day evening with my Wife, 1 year old son, Mother inlaw and Sister inlaw. Our table was pre-booked and all ready for us when we arrived complete with High Chair for the Little Man. Our server for the evening was an extremely charming and helpful young lady called Jemma. I have to... More

Hi there thanks for the review but as it was for a visit 5 months ago I can't comment on the portion size of the meat as I believe it's currently very generous. You can also sit inside WITH your dog :) Kind regards, Matthew More

Myself and 5 friends came here to celebrate the festive season. We found the service very, very good and the food was much better than expected having not been here before. Some of us ate from the Christmas Special Menu and some from the a la carte, we all agreed that we would be back ....soon!

Visited for lunch with a group of 9 - loved it. Food was tasty, and loads of choice. Puddings were amazing too (we followed the advice on the blackboards to make sure we stayed safe😉). Great buzzy atmosphere, not too loud, not too quiet. Relaxed, friendly and welcoming .......we'll be back !

Found this place quite by accident when we were on our way to join a cruise from Southampton and were looking for somewhere to have lunch and kill some time until our allotted Embarkation Time. It's set back from the road so easy to miss, but well worth the effort. It has a welcoming atmosphere and we were greeted as... More

Hi there Roy, thank you for the nice words. I'm very pleased you stumbled upon us before embarkment and we really do hope you have the best time on your cruise. Remember to visit us when you return to good old Blighty... only if you're not sick of good food by then of course. All the best, Matthew More

We went for Christmas dinner with the family. The most disgusting, inedible plates of food ever were thrown at us by rude, totally uncaring, unhappy and untrained staff. The food was so bad that even Pedigree Chum wouldn't employ these supposed Chefs. The seafood was a dried piece of salmon on bread. The turkey hadn't seen liquid refreshment for at... More

Hi Sally, Thank you for also leaving us feedback. As I said to Julia, I'm sorry to read that you were unhappy with your Beef Wellington. We served exactly 101 of them that day are usually very popular throughout the rest of the year and this is the first complaint we have received regarding them. The wellington is filled with...
