Had a stop over locally and needed to find somewhere to eat. This & another was near to us and had 4* reviews. We tried the first one but was not impressed with menu so made our way to the next. Arrived in the pouring rain, at the bottom of a long road to find a pub with car park full of pot holes. Not put off, we went in and spoke with very friendly & happy barman. We were seated in the busy restaurant area on their last empty table, offered drinks and the menu, which was your usual pub food, with some nice "small plate" additions, plus a specials menu, of which half was sold out. We choose scampi & chips and a gammon & chips from the main, and ordered drinks. Table was clean and not tacky like some pub restaurant tables and cutlery all clean. Condiments already set up. Drinks arrived in good time. Seating was comfortable. The clientele was mixed and the pub had a nice comfortable feel about with background music. A well presented, polite, cheery waitress served our table for the rest of the evening. Our food arrived, hot, well cooked and huge portions. More than we could actually eat. Nice wedge of lemon and tartare sauce for the scampi meal, plus pineapple (you can have an egg if preferred) to compliment the very juicy gammon meal. The chips were chunky with hot soft potato inside & crsipy on the outside. The prices for food are higher than the usual pub chain admittedly, but this is not a pub chain restaurant, our bill including drinks for 2 was £47. Our meal was delicious and we left, full up content and would happily recommend this local pub restaurant to others.

The Southampton Arms – A Perfect Ending to Our Culinary Journey in Southampton It seems we truly saved the best for last! Our meal at The Southampton Arms was hands down the highlight of our visit to Southampton, and we couldn’t have asked for a better Sunday brunch experience. This place offers some of the best homestyle cooking around, and after a week, it was a joy to finally see a generous serving of fresh veggies on my plate. The food here is fresh, delicious, and served piping hot, just like a good homestyle meal should be. Although we didn’t realize we needed a reservation, Martina, who runs this charming establishment, made sure we got a table and the chance to enjoy her incredible food. We kicked off our brunch with a refreshing Moretti beer and a beautifully smoked mackerel starter. Next came the star of the show: a trio of roasts featuring pork, lamb, and beef, all accompanied by an assortment of veggies and creamy mashed carrots. And just when we thought it couldn't get any better, we were served an outstanding beef pie with a side of veggies and mashed potatoes. For anyone who loves authentic, hearty, and simply delicious food, I wholeheartedly recommend The Southampton Arms. It’s a must-visit for real food lovers!

Went to the SA tonight; in laws treated us to a meal so it was their choice. Ambience seemed nice and staff were very nice. I ordered the haddock and chips and my daughters had fishfingers and chips. For £8 each, they had fishfingers from the supermarket and my haddock was clearly shop bought too. In fact, to make it look ample, I had 2 pieces which was odd. Would have minded if it wasn't so expensive. The profit they are making on that - at £17 a pop!!! However, couple next to me were having steak and chilli and it looked better. Rest of the dishes ordered by family were okay it seems. I think you should consider reviewing your prices if you are going to serve frozen fish. Your menu is misleading as it sounded like you had dipped the fresh fish in batter and then fried. Such a shame really. Had sticky toffee pudding for pudding and I left most of it. Tasted of banana - not even sure what that was. Oh well.

I can’t comment regarding the restaurant food as we’ve not eaten there. However we had a wake there and paid over £500 for 40 people to eat and for what we recieved and quality was awful! Variety was poor, quality was poor, sandwiches were dry and I’ve seen more food at a child’s party for 15! As far as wakes go I would definitely NOT recommend it or for any function they cater for. Can’t comment on the staff as we didn’t see anyone or get welcomed and however when phoning to make payment I wouldn’t say the spoke welcoming, it was like answering the phone was a inconvenience

Was always our go to pub for good food reasonably priced. Went recently-prices gone up and food not great. Had lasagne-luke warm and meat gristly, chips over cooked & greasy, salad old and 1 small piece of burnt garlic bread. The best part was the coleslaw! Won’t be returning.

Stopped at the Holiday Inn Express M27 junction 7 for one night. We decided to eat out the satnav showed us the way when we arrived at the pub, we were met with a pub full of locals having a drink, and we got the last table available and that was 6pm so if you go ring and book before you go, staff very nice and food didn't disappoint too. Just go and enjoy!

We stayed in the Holiday Inn Express pre cruise and made the effort to walk here and it was well worth it. We had a drink in the afternoon when we looked at the menu and after exploring other options in the area telephoned them to make a booking. Staff could not have been more accommodating. I had enjoyed a particular glass of wine in the afternoon and asked if they sold it by the bottle. The lady said she would ask the bar person which it was and make sure a bottle was available. When we arrived it was ready in an ice-bucket on our table which was a really nice touch. It is not an overly extensive menu but is varied and does not lack choice. The quality of the food is excellent and the portions generous too. We had no room for puddings after 2 courses so took our bottle of wine into the bar to finish off a very enjoyable evening.

Went for some food and a drink here for the 1st time. We both had the lasagne and couldn't fault anything. Chunky Chips perfectly cooked, great side salad with dressing and a beautiful lasagne, even got a piece of garlic bread thrown in. I asked for tartar sauce for my chips, but food was so well seasoned I used nothing, not even salt which has never happened. Will 100% be back and also recommend.

We had a large family (18 people including babies and children up to 9 years) lunch for Mother’s Day and had preordered via email with Martina who was very helpful and good at communicating with me throughout. All of the meals were served at the same time and were piping hot and were correct which can be difficult with that amount of meals even with a preorder. The food was really tasty and had good portion sizes too. Our waitress was really friendly and helpful too. We will definitely go back again and thank the whole team there for such a lovely lunch :)

I had my 70th Birthday get together on the 19th November. We all had a Sunday Lunch _mostly roast dinners. The food was lovely and even though there was 30 of us all meals were hot on the table . The service was friendly and very accommodating when we asked for extra and allowing us to decorate and exclusively use the conservatory. Thank you to all the staff -you made my day relaxing and worry free.

8 of us celebrated our Works Christmas Lunch at the Southampton Arms today and all had a thoroughly great time. The welcome was warm, the staff very helpful and the food was excellent (huge portions). As we were a large party, we had pre-ordered as requested and it all went smoothly. We will be back, thank you Martina and Team.

We happened to spot a road sign and decided to investigate. Megan, the waitress, welcomed us and took us to a well lit table in a conservatory. We ordered some fresh sea bass and a homemade steak and ale pie reasonably priced. The plates and meals were hot and tasted delicious. The vegetables were well presented and properly cooked. We both shared an Eaton Mess which which we found to be rather filling. It served us right! Being a pub restaurant there is a wide selection of beers as well as a couple of real ales. To the rear there is a beer garden with a couple of play activities for the younger children. The food choice made a great change to what's normally on offer in the larger pub chains. This is home made food and not prepackaged and warmed up food. If you decide to drop by please say hello to Megan who is very cheerful and ready to assist. Highly recommended.

Went here for the very first time for dinner mid-week, and was initially a little disappointed by the menu (no fish n chips only scampi n chips). I ordered the fish pie and my husband ordered the steak pie - both were exceedingly good, tasty and good sized portions. The fish pie was probably one of the best I've ever tasted - lots of fish chunks, nice thick and creamy with lots of veg. The service was excellent, friendly and efficient.

I always enjoy the food here, especially the Sunday roast. The staff are always lovely too. Yesterday we visited and I had the pork roast. I was disappointed as the pork had been frozen and had that strange taste which gave away the fact it wasn't fresh. Everything else was lovely but the main event wasn't up to it.
