Fabulous views of harbour entrance.
Lovey young lady serving who was professional, friendly and great fun. The food was tasty but the portions for my gnocchi were mean and tiny and certainly not value for money. Unfortunately we had a table where the radiator was stone cold. We asked the manger who bluntly said it’s not working, we asked for a plug in heater and he didn’t have one. His attitude was dismissive and arrogant. He urgently needs lessons in how to treat paying customer from his own staff The experience has put us off returning.

We are a family party of 4 who went for Sunday lunch.
We were escorted to an upstairs window table (as requested on booking) and soon attended to by a very pleasant and engaging server.
Our drinks came swiftly and our food order taken.
The food arrived in good time and extra sauces delivered promptly.
However, several of our meals were disappointing : the Beef was TOUGH / SINEWY and soon given up on, The chips accompanying the Burger and also the Fish meal, were few and far apart. The forth meal - Roast pork dinner was good.
Our four deserts should be classed as" Light Bites" The order of 2x ice cream balls were near hemispherical - rather than full scoops - not good value at ÂŁ2.5/scoop.
The lime and raspberry posset lacked any form of decoration, and I opted for the apple and blackberry crumble, which was tiny but very tasty.
One of the desserts was deducted from the bill as a gesture of good will for the inedible beef . We accepted this, as the earlier offer of replacement beef didn't seem a viable option.
In retrospect, we should have requested that the roast beef dinned be deducted from the overall ÂŁ123 bill.
Good service and location but food not so good.

Great setting. Beautiful evening. Initial thoughts were great. We were at a table upstairs in the conservatory area and we had to walk fast to keep up with the server who took us to our table so that we knew where to go but great view looking out. Initial service excellent. Order taken and food came reasonably quickly. Asked for vinegar and server both mayo but we overlooked this. Then the service showed down considerably. We asked for dessert menus that never came so we pinched one off an adjoining table. Eventually ordering then half an hour later still no desserts. Finally caught servers eye she apologised profusely and we cancelled them. Not sure the order ever reached the kitchen to be honest. She knocked 10% off the bill which was well done. We’d return to see if it was better as food and initial service and view were excellent

With the amount of money this establishment must be churning, it would do them great service to invest in conservatory ceiling blinds and ceiling fans on 1st floor. The windows are anchored so don't open enough for a decent breeze and the heat on a sunny day in the 1st floor gallery area is unbearable. Ruined lunched entirely, especially as we were moved from our reserved table twice as the staff made errors in seating us, so the shaded area we had booked and were seated at was cancelled to our faces for a group booking (who didn't show up during the entire two hours of our lunch) and we were moved to what is essentially a greenhouse. Bizarre when you think that of a cool evening you can get cushions and blankets downstairs but cooking you upstairs is deemed acceptable. Not enough staff for the Sunday lunch headcount either so service was slow and, even though charming when they appeared, staff were not attentive and left us chasing them for water and drinks.

Went for a roast, as you do on a Sunday. Actually hang on, although clearly under staffed, the staff that did help us out were wonderful!!! Back to the roast! Total rip off!!! Had pork (2 tiny slices) with soggy cracking 🤢 - this after the waitress tells us the roasts are big - THEY ARE NOT! Veggies - literally one carrott and one parsnip and I didn’t count the soggy potatoes as by then I was fuming. Gravy, let’s talk gravy - had on the plate something that looked to be a teaspoon spoon of gravy! REALLY??? It’s gravy people - next time I’ll bring my own, well there will be no next time. Last but not least - IT WAS COLD! Honestly beyond rip off considering it’s nearly £20. Again the staff that did serve us and so on although lied that the roast is big and we had to go to the bar numerous times as there is no eye contact with the customers, they were lovely people. I suggest a good reassessment of your management would be a good shout to avoid such feedback from your customers and train your staff a bit better.

I had two pints of HSB. The first one was fine, served at ambient temperature it was very tasty. This one must have been sitting in the pipe as the second was chilled to the extent that condensation was running down the glass. Cold HSB is not tasty. I have been drinking bitter for over 50 years and know the difference. In August 2019 I complained about the temperature and they replied that they were proud of ensuring that their beers were served at the industry standard. Codswallop. I decided to have lunch and chose the mackerel fillet special. The fillet itself was not over large, bordering on small. Mackerel is cheap and plentiful so it should be 2 small or 1 large fillet for ÂŁ9.50. Sadly it was over-cooked to the point of being dry and a bit chewy. If you serve fish make sure it is cooked properly.
When I got home, two hours later I only just made it to the loo. I will not describe what happened there. I will not cast aspersions, suffice to say that I will never return there for either drinks or food.

I have taken a couple of days to reflect on our experience on Xmas Day and the disappointment of pretty much everything on the day, before writing this mail, if for no other reason but to calm down somewhat and put into words my feelings as accurately as possible so that not only do I give some constructive criticism but I also hopefully convey the degree of disappointment felt.
Firstly, we had three overseas guests with us and really wanted to show them the best we could from a local pub and have used the S&W many many times in the past thirty years, living just around the corner in Old Portsmouth.
However, what we actually received was nothing more than a total waste of our money.
ÂŁ95 each suggests something special, but if I take each meal in turn I have the following comments
Appetisers
Quality was OK, they were unexpected and hence probably the only positive. They were not great but a surprise so we at least felt that some effort had been made to make the meal special (that’s where that thought ended!)
Starters
OK, seemed to be what was promised
Mains
Turkey - absolutely awful, roast potatoes were inedible and hard, meat seemed to be a Turkey roll rather than carved from an actual bird and accompaniments (stuffing and pigs in blankets) just sitting on top like an after thought, which tasted of nothing.
Cauliflower Wellington
Inedible
Hard crust, dry inside and no attempt to do something different with the veg, horrible
Fish
Fish was OK but how on earth you can you serve sprouts with fish I really do not know and no other veg offered
Desserts
Xmas Pudding
Asked for cream rather than ice cream and told you didn’t have any…really???
Now, once the food was done with, we asked for coffee…no decaf available…really????, no cream again as with the Xmas pudding!!! and a bowl of chocolates that really showed how cheap you were treating your customers…snickers and bounty ?…really felt special after that thanks!
So, looking back on this experience I feel a total fool. Ripped off paying nearly ÂŁ500 for 5 pretty much inedible meals and worse still paying money to a restaurant that really showed no sign of valuing its customers and wanting to do something special for them on their special day.
It all felt very cheap, served up on a conveyor and an experience that we will not, ever, go through again

Four of us went there for dinner, we had been once before and it was fine. This time, it was 4pm in December with a relatively quiet restaurant. We ordered a selection of meals, only to say it was average. My haddock and chips was not matching the price and wasn't hot, it seemed like it had been sitting around. The mushy peas were like pellets. I've had a lot better from a local chippy where the prices are much better. Someone had coleslaw which looked like withered cabbage and dried carrot. The service was very slow, considering the place wasn't busy. We certaily won't be going back, especially over ÂŁ100 for a very below average pub food experience. Definitely not a gastro pub.

The bar staff gave us the wrong information about the food and when we received the food and we mentioned it the guy said he investigated but nothing happened. The food was over cooked and small portions and nothing special. Will not go back. Table next to us also complained about the food and no one finished their food. Very disappointed

We ate at the Still and West at 5pm after booking a window seat. It was just getting dark and the restaurant looked very nice with all tables laid up and candles lit on every table. This gave a really nice ambience and it was appreciated that tables were dressed in this way rather than just laying tables and lighting candles for those tables that had been pre-booked or when customers arrived.
My friend and I both ate from the specials menu - she had salmon in a lemon and caper sauce and I had the venison casserole. A request to swap the new potatoes for mash was happily accepted by the waitress who was very good throughout the 2 hours we were in the restaurant. She gave exactly the right level of attentiveness, noticing when our drinks were getting low and clearing plates quickly after we had finished courses.
My friend really enjoyed her salmon and my venison casserole was delicious, with a rich gravy and tender meat. My casserole was good value at ÂŁ15.50 but I thought her salmon was a little expensive at ÂŁ18.95 as salmon is not usually one of the more expensive items on a menu like certain other fish dishes are.
It was a thoroughly enjoyable meal though and I'd have no hesitation in recommending the Still and West to others.

Visited the Still & West for lunch today. It's located in Old Portsmouth by The Point and is right at the entrance to Portsmouth Harbour with stunning views, particularly from the upstairs resturant. Inside the decor is a mixture of mock 18th century architecture and more modern maritime themed touches. The ambience inside is snug and comfy downstairs and light and airy upstairs. Real open fires on both floors. Unfortunately, my favouraite tipple, Gale's HSB, was unavailable so I chose a bottle of Fuller's ESB instead. All the items on the menu were available at the time of my visit and there was also a specials board as well. I had fish & chips and they were absolutely delicious. The batter on the fish was crispy and tasty and the fish was fresh and cooked to perfection - it just melted in the mouth. Proper home cooked chips too with (as far as I could tell) home made tartar sauce and mushy peas. The fish and chips cost ÂŁ18.50, not cheap I know, but worth it in my view when the quality of the food and cooking is this good. Service was friendly and efficient. My thanks to Henry and his collegues for the exemplary way they looked after me during my visit. A lovely pub in a great location with excellent food and service. Highly recommended.

Son moved to Old Portsmouth and booked this lovely old pub for lunch so we could eat/rest before unpacking!! We’d booked for 1.30 but arrived 20 minutes early but it was not a problem and were shown to a lovely table upstairs overlooking the sea where we could see all the boats and ferries sail past us. I’d read the mixed reviews on Trip Advisor so wasn’t sure what to expect food/service wise. Maddie was our waitress and took our drinks order promptly, and when she brought the drinks took our lunch order - very efficient and friendly. Daughter had haddock and chips which was huge but she ate every bit of it! Son-in-law had sea bream which he said was very tasty. Husband and son had the liver off the specials board - both thought it was fantastic! Very generous portion of liver with lovely spinach, gravy and creamy mash potatoes. Perfect in every way. I had a very nice fillet of salmon cooked to perfection in soy and ginger with green beans, yellow and green courgettes and new potatoes. It was delicious, filling but still light for the summer. Maddie and another chap both came and checked if we were happy and if we wanted more drinks. So I found that the location was perfect, the service was perfect and the food was delicious! We had a really lovely lunch and it was a sunny, airy table and even the Meantime IPA and non-alcohol gin and tonics were perfect. Thank you Still and West it made our moving day even better than we hoped it would be!

We came here for lunch with family
The crab burger was ÂŁ18.50 but was very poor. We also had sea bream which we had to send back as it was contaminated with another fish. The fish was swapped for a sandwich but unfortunately the wrong sandwich was provided.
The staff were polite and understanding throughout and the views are stunning.

We visited on what was a very busy evening. We had booked in advance.
Our food, particularly the mains, took a long time to come
Our server spoke to us 3-4 times to keep us updated and to apologise.
We were happy as we were enjoying our experience here and did not complain as it was obvious that they were under pressure.
We were offered and given free desserts and 20% off of the bill.
The food was excellent and the customer service was first class!
Well done to the staff who were a credit to this great pub. As a result we really enjoyed our evening.
We have often visited before and will continue to do so.
Well done!

We had a great table next to the window overlooking the sea!
The roast beef dinner was unfortunately not worth the 20.00 price tag, a huge yorkie covered the dinner, which was cold, we mentioned to the waitress on arrival if the dinner could be really hot, as we had had a bad experience of cold food from another restaurant when we had Sunday lunch.
The dinner was not particularly that hot, there was a good portion of roast beef, but the roast potatoes were burnt,
and looked and tasted like they had been in the oven for hours! The roasted veg was also well over done. The portion of cauliflower cheese & other veg was small, and the meal was not worth 20.00.
The waitress removed the roasts that we did not eat, from the bill , also the bread nibbles and a 10% discount on the wine, which we did not expect, but the disappointment was already done, and we left to find another restaurant in Southsea.
