Whilst on a day trip exploring Cheltenham and the surrounding area it was time for some lunch. We looked on trip advisor and thought we'd give the royal a go so a phone call later we were booked in. First job was to find it not being from cheltenham but using the Sat Nov we managed to find it. What... More

We visited yesterday and had a terrific meal. We were greeted like old friends by Steve and the atmosphere in the Pub is modern, classy but welcoming. Our children were also made to feel important and Steve even played a well received trick on my over-confident 11 year old after building a lovely rapport with him. All the food was... More

Being new to trip advisor, I thought I'd choose a place for our family get together by looking through the top 40. Everyone mentioning the friendly staff and great meals were correct! There was a few of us and we asked if the kids could sit on a separate table. They were more than happy. I ordered the Caesar salad... More

My wife and I went to the Royal for a quiet birthday meal since it is one of our local pubs and we have eaten there before. The starters were pretty unmemorable but it was the main course where the real disaster happened. We seemed to have waited for a long time before it appeared. I had ordered a mixed... More

Whilst I agree with previous review about the cost of eating at the Royal, have to say the meals we had last night were excellent! Very tasty indeed. Although we hadn't booked beforehand, the place was really busy, but they still managed to accommodate us. The table service was very good too. Highly recommend it for a treat!

This is one of our regular pubs and it's lovely but lately we have had food on at least 2 occasions and been very disappointed so won't be eating here again. Feel quite ripped off with the ceaser salad dish! £12 for a small amount of brown edged lettuce, 6 chunks of bread croutons and hardly any sauce to swill... More

We visited the Royal with friends today, a busy Saturday, and are impressed with the service and quality of the food served. The Royal is a pub and restaurant in the centre of Charlton Kings just opposite St Mary's parish church. It has a beer garden, bar and restaurant. All areas clean and well kept. We all had drinks and... More

This is worth the drive out of the centre of town for the beer garden alone. Staff are always lovely and food tastes good. My only little thing would be that £3 is a bit much for a pint of diet Coke!

Just experienced "Wednesday Burger night" but although the lamb burger and chips were good, the salad was old and tired with brown edges to the leaves and slimy tomatoes. On giving this comment to the Maitresse d'hôtel, she visited the kitchen and then returned to say, "The chef has changed the lettuce, thank you for bringing it to my attention"... More

Thank you very much for your constructive comments. I would first like to apologise for the poor meal you experienced, especially the service. I can assure you that our salad is fresh everyday. However, we have discussed the matter, and that of the desserts, with the kitchen team and they have implemented the necessary checks to ensure that it does... More

We have lunch at The Royal on a regular basis and have always found the quality of he food and service excelent. We always recommend The Royal as the best place to eat in Charlton Kings if not Cheltenham. Very good value too.
