Our hotel recommended the Mermaid, which turned out to be a perfect dinner venue. The restaurant is in a very old, well preserved building. It boasts 2 AA Rosettes, which we found to be very well deserved. The dining experience was very comfortable and elegant. The menu offers 2 or 3 course fixed price options, with a good choice of... This is a must for people visiting Rye or the surrounding area. As you walk through the place you can almost smell the history. We had some light lunch here and it was very nice, not cheap by any means but nice for a treat. The staff were all very polite and we very much enjoyed our visit.

We went for dinner having booked the previous evening while having drinks in the garden. The restaurant staff were very attentive but not overly, friendly, courteous & efficient. The food was really good if a little bit on the expensive side, that said the experience was fantastic after so many years. We would whole-heartedly recommend it.

We had a secret escapes overnight stay with an evening meal included at the Mermaid. If we had not had this as a discounted meal, l I would have felt it was very overpriced at £39.50 for 3 courses. My husband raved about his first 2 courses, he had lobster tagliatelle, followed by a beef dish. All very tasty and... More

This is a very interesting hotel, full of character and we decided to book a table for dinner. We sat outside for drinks and were called to the table to place our order. We were left to carry our drinks in ourselves! The restaurant was not over busy and the service was fine but the food quality was poor. My... More

Lovely three course meal in restaurant in unique setting in Rye. Dining room contains many paintings and history of smugglers to the Inn. Food beautifully cooked, lamb melts in your mouth and menu fantastic. Service wonderful.

This 'restaurant' gets a lot of press so thought we would try, first night on a long weekend in Rye. It's a pub with pretentious ambition...staff are numerous and strangely very formal in dress and attitude. It doesn't really work as a concept. Food 'sold up' but sounded better on the menu than it was. I had Braised pig cheeks,... More
