We used to come here often and it was always a special occasion. Then a few years ago it started to drop in quality and after one really poor meal we stopped going altogether. After reading some positive reviews we decided to try it again for a birthday dinner. Unfortunately the restaurant needs to improve dramatically in order to get... More

It is a pity that you did not think to comment on your starters at the time. Nobody cooks a risotto from scratch. Even if you go the the Michelin starred River Café and order a risotto it will be served to you 10-15 minutes after you order it. Risotto takes approximately 18 minutes to cook once the order is... We eat at the Jolly Sportsman at least twice a year - the menus are always inventive and the standard of food is very good. The service can be a little slow - so allow time - and it is somewhat " off the beaten track " ( SATNAV helps!) - but worth the effort.

I had heard good things about the food at the Jolly Sportsman and 1st impressions were good - nice setting, pretty garden, well decorated and the smells emanating from the kitchen made the mouth water! The service was friendly and efficient and the dishes were well prepared and the perfect size. So why just the 4 stars? The menu is... More

Great setting , good car park . Superb garden if you wish to dine outside on a sunny day. Very comfortable interior. Great menu enjoyed by all our family group of 5. Local ale and excellent choice of soft drinks too. Will definitely return, looking forward to eating by the log fire on a winters day too.

Walked here recently from Lewes to celebrate my birthday. We were made extremely welcome and a table was made up for us in he bar to accommodate our dog, who was also made to feel very welcome with a bowl of water and dog biscuits! Great beer from the barrel, lovely local sparkling wine, faultless food and a very good... More

This is a proper pub and an amazing restaurant, we went mid week so probably a little quiet, but we didn't mind, there were other diners in the restaurant too so we were not alone. My husband was delighted by the different beers and as always I was delighted with the options of different Gins. We had the most amazing... More

Turned up as a party of nine just as the pub was opening. The manager looked perturbed. We were told that, if we sat in the garden, we would only be allowed one course as they could not manage too many trips. Taking into account that there were only two other groups in the pub at the time, this was... More

We always visit this lovely country pub if we want something special. Great food, lovely patio and gardens. We can take our dog with us here and sometimes walk through the woods from Plumpton Racecourse. They have a special inside bar if you have a dog and its not warm enough to sit in the garden. We had a lovely... More

Wonderful Sunday lunch for adults and kids alike. First visit in nearly ten years and we were not disappointed. Sunday roast was the tastiest I've had in years. Lamb gravy to die for, triple cooked chips are just something else! Been salivating over those ever since. Thank you.

A restaurant with a good range of bar drinks (I got my manzanilla sherry) and a reasonably varied choice from the menu. My wife and I both had the crab mousse for our starter, which was dressed with an avocado purée. This was delicate and excellent. We followed it with veal cutlets, with a potato fondant, chicory with a glaze... More
