We always visit this lovely country pub if we want something special. Great food, lovely patio and gardens. We can take our dog with us here and sometimes walk through the woods from Plumpton Racecourse. They have a special inside bar if you have a dog and its not warm enough to sit in the garden. We had a lovely... More

Wonderful Sunday lunch for adults and kids alike. First visit in nearly ten years and we were not disappointed. Sunday roast was the tastiest I've had in years. Lamb gravy to die for, triple cooked chips are just something else! Been salivating over those ever since. Thank you.

A restaurant with a good range of bar drinks (I got my manzanilla sherry) and a reasonably varied choice from the menu. My wife and I both had the crab mousse for our starter, which was dressed with an avocado purée. This was delicate and excellent. We followed it with veal cutlets, with a potato fondant, chicory with a glaze... More

We have many fine eateries around us but this place is top notch. Such a lovely welcome, huge choice of refreshments(great to know you can get a decent non alcoholic beer when you're driving ). The set menu s excellent value, hubby had Hake and new pots in a lovely fresh sauce- he raved about it(doesn't happen v often!!). I... More

Had a lovely time there last night. Great food, great wine selection. Hard to find fault really. Had a bad experience a couple of years back but this occasion was fantastic. I'll be back for sure

The Jolly Sportsman is an attractive pub in a lovely, quiet location, with a particularly nice garden area. (It also has a glassed-in area in which you could enjoy the garden view on a chilly or damp day.) So it was all the more peculiar that none of the staff saw fit to mention the garden's existence to a party... More

we went after doing a walk on the South Downs, after booking a table for 5. the pub has a lovely garden, and on a summer's day is fantastic. although the quality of the food was good (we had the roast chicken) the portions were incredibly small, chicken (nicely cooked and succulent) a small square of potato and a fairly... We had dinner here and the food was good but unfortunately let down by poor management- particularly front of house. I had a veal chop which was barely lukewarm. I told one of the front of house managers but he didn't seem very interested. When you order food here it comes out almost straight away so I suspect they cook... More

Couldn't fault it. Not cheap, but that's ok. Leaving drinks out it comes in @ about £30 a head for three courses, but the food was fabulous. As so often, it's not always the expensive dishes that you remember (although the Lobster bisque and the Kent Lamb were exceptional) their home-baked bread is off the planet. V good service, efficient,... More

Excellent food, professional staff, but this is not the sort of place you'd go to for a quiet pint and a natter with regulars. Yes,it has a bar,but a very small one. Yes,it has real ale,but racked and no handpumps So,it really is a restaurant with beer. The food certainly isn't "pub grub"-it's far superior, both in quality and price. Pleasant garden setting...
