As the title says, "Great Food"! Two evenings running we went and two evenings running we had the same. Seafood Risotto for my wife and battered plaice and chips for myself. Good value meals, well prepared with good service- what not to like? Recommend for...anyone who wants a good value fish meal in a friendly restaurant. Both nights we were there it was really busy- considering you're talking mid-November that should tell you something!More

After reading reviews & seeing recommendations from Jay Rayner & Rick Stein, we thought this would be perfect. However when we arrive at this grubby "café" type restaurant, we had to wait in a crowed door way with loud & quite rude waiters shouting at...other customers. once seated we were served quickly wit what I can only describe as very poor food far to many "greasy chips" limp salad and over cooked escallops. My partners sea food pasts was equally as bad . IT seems to me as this place is run on a " get them in & out as quick as possible". a dreadful meal out. THE WORST we have ever had in Brighton. and to top it all They added a service charge to an already inflated bill, which i asked to be removed. dont eat here is all I can say!!! Plus I'm not so sure about the reviews & recommendations being quite accurate.More

Really enjoyed our dinner here with a group of friends. The table was pre booked for 12 and was ready on our arrival. Lovely mussels for starter, the scallops looked great and my hake main course was delicious. The service was good friendly and efficient....Have been to Brighton many times and tend to avoid places on the seafront as they are often not great quality thinking they have a captive market. This is not the case here, well worth a visit and we will be back.More

What an amazing place ( no pun intended ) . For fish lovers , it's fantastic . it accommodates non fish lovers . Great choices . Great quality . Fantastic fresh produce Good service . Well cooked fish . Great price for such fresh fish.... Physically , for some , this seafront restaurant may not tick your list . Please don't discount it if you like fish . There are chandeliers , cosy spaces , seating on the pavement , sea view , if the weathers is good . Slightly kitsch and wonderful . Clean , wonderful for space , food and service . I love it . if you like fish , do try , xMore

It has been the same family running this restaurant for the 42 years we have been coming here. The food is always amazing. Garlic king prawns - brilliant Lobster - fantastic Crab salad - wonderful Banoffee pie - amazing Tiramissu - a dream Just some...of the things we have had here and they never disappoint. It is always a wonderful meal in a brilliant atmoshere. The website tells you to just go but a lot of people are aware how good this place is so I always book a few days ahead to make sure of a table. The service is always really good and they are amazingly helpful if you want to query anything. It is worth the 4.5 hour drive and a couple of nights stay in a hotel for two nights amazing food!!More

Apart from one very nice (East European?) older waitress, the staff in this place are a bunch of arrogant, self regarding w**kers. The worst was the woman who met us at the door, unsmiling, unfriendly, rude cow. What an entitled princess! She spoke English but...hasn't picked up any English courtesy or manners, just ignorant disrespect. The other waiters spent a lot of time strutting around and yacking to each other around the bar area. Been going here for years. This will be the last time. AVOID. It has become like one of those tourist restaurants you get in places like Rome or Athens or Istanbul where they're spoilt for business and don't give a sh*t about the customer. Brighton has many good and friendly restaurants. We don't need to support this one. Let it fail.More

Pros - Food was served quickly. - Quality of the whole sea bream was very good. The fish was fresh and taste was great. Cons - Quality of king prawns dish was not good. It was too salty. - The side dishes fries and vegetables...were simple. It was alright, not too bad but not too great either. - Inside and outside restaurant didn’t look taken care of, this could be improved. - Noisy customers were talking loud and were sometimes shouting. It didn’t made eating comfortable. Conclusion If you want a quick and nice meal with seafood, this is would be a good choice. The food was nice but I expected a bit more of the quality / price ratio. Furthermore, improvements could be made to improve the overall experience. To conclude, I would give it 3/5 stars.More

Great food and service. We visited when it was very windy and wet outside, the staff offered us the best seats in the house, outside on the seafront 🤣🤣 plenty of spaces they said lol This humour was evident throughout the meal with everyone in...the restaurant between staff and with customers also, was really good friendly service. And on top of that the food was amazing also, I ate far too much because it was so nice I had seafood platter followed by lemon sorbet and a baileys coffee. Everything was delightfulMore

Had Dover Sole & my friend had Calamari. As this was catch-up time, I thought I would push the boat out & go 4 the Dover Sole, not cheap, but I remember Ma said it was the "King of fish"; very nice, well cooked &...plenty of fish on the bone. Could have had a few more chips, but nice. My only gripe being oysters were ordered, but never turned up, but they billed me 4 them. On questioning this, when the bill came along, this was rectified & removed from the bill. Happy days. Service was OKish, but could have been better, as it was difficult 2 get the floor walkers' attention 2 place orders etc... the restaurant was 2/3rds full, so not "overly" busy. Someone should monitor the tables inside & outside the restaurant. Overall, a good place 2 visit, but it needs more attention 2 detail & order details.More

What happened??? This place used to be great, it was warm, friendly, the food was great. We went last Went Friday after booking, when we got there a few mins early as usual and said we had a table for two under our name at...8pm, the waiter on the door just shrugged, like the concept of reservations wasn’t even a thing! It was clear they just hadn’t reserved the table, so we had to wait for 15 minutes, other guests who’d also booked arrived and were also now stood outside in the wind and rain. The waiter just said that they were busy and then the older owner guy said to us “don’t be impatient” we weren’t impatient, we were outside and were cold and hungry. When we got in (just the two of us) we were given our table which was kind of plonked in the middle of two big tables with groups on, and we were right in the way of all the waiters hustling and bustling passed us, dropping cutlery and generally flying past. We were given menus but knew what we wanted as we often come here, you could call us regulars in fact. But tonight we were not given a warm welcome, it was like we were now out of favour for even questioning why our reservation wasn’t kept. So we had our usual Fillet Steak with Beenaise sauce and a Seafood platter. The steak was supposed to be medium rare , but came out well done, when I caught a waitresses eye I did the usual, sorry to bother you, but etc all very polite, then told the waitress I’d ordered medium rare, she scowled at me and just lifted my plate off the table and marched to the kitchen like Basil Fawlty. Honestly, it was really weird as it was the first interaction with her. Got the food back in the end after ages, so my partner was eating on their own for 15 mins. When it came back another waiter just served it and no apology or anything, the chips were now cold. OMG? I asked if they could give me fresh chips to go with the fresh chips and they said I hadn’t mentioned the chips being cold before, honestly, this is what we were up against. I pointed out that they weren’t cold before, but they are now so they took my plate again and then after 5 mins I got it back, by then I was just hacked off. We usually stay a while, have a few drinks and a desert, a cocktail and a coffee, easily would spend £125+ in there on date night, but between the poor welcome, the wrong food, getting brushed by a waiter rushing past every few mins, the surly staff and then eating out of sync, we just didn’t enjoy it. Then we could tell that the waitress I had mentioned the steak to was talking about us to the waiter id asked about the chips and they were shaking their heads, it was intimidating. We asked for the bill and it took for ever, we had to remind them twice over 20 or so mins. In the end I just went to pay at the bar, I was told to sit down and wait for the bill. I said I had been waiting 20 mins already to pay so they either take my money now or they don’t take it at all. It was pretty crazy. We supported them through Covid, getting take outs as a weekend treat, paying restaurant prices too, Well we felt it was a good thing to do, to make sure it was still around for us on the other side when things got back to normal, but f**k me we wish we hadn’t bothered now. It’s a shame as we’ve been going for 10 years and our kids grew up going there for breaksfast, lunches, family dinners, birthdays - you name it. But never again. Brighton and hove have so many options. Regency is turning into a tourist trap now, standard have slipped and if they’re not careful they’ll lose their good name and local following who’ve supported them through the years.More

I never usually leave reviews for places but left this place with a sour taste in my mouth. When seated we were given a bad table (after booking in advance) I politely asked if we could swap as there was a empty one next to...us and was told by what looked like the owner to ‘stop being greedy’ ??? As a paying customer I would have expected a lot better than this…The restaurant is not cheap either, with my food tasting very stale and pasta seeming like it had just been microwaved up, very over cooked and not very tasty. I was too embarrassed to complain as the staff ignored us and made me feel uncomfortable but felt I should say something as the only reason we came was for good reviews I’d read online :(More

My husband and I called in for supper yesterday evening. The first time we’ve been even though we’ve thought about it for ages. It should have stayed as a thought! We went through the door to be greeted by a chap who clearly thought he...was amusing (just by his swagger). I asked if they had local fish he replied ‘sit and look at the menu and then I’ll tell you’. We should have gone elsewhere then! We were seated at a tiny table in the window. The dado rail was dirty and clearly hadn’t been cleaned for a very long time. We asked a different waiter where the fish was from - was it local. He didn’t really answer but said that sea bream or hake were good. We both ordered sea bream with salad and potatoes. The sea bream was okay - not anything special. It sat swimming in some undefinable oil/butter? Peeled new potatoes that tarted of nothing as if they were prepped a long time ago. Okay salad, but ruined by being on the same plate in the oil/butter combo. Wouldn’t go back. It wasn’t that expensive but there are so many better places to go in Brighton dining great food.More
