We stopped in for lunch during a weekend break to Brighton. Plateau was reasonably quiet, 2 tables outside and another inside, plus us. We received great service during our visit and the food and wine was delicious. We felt relaxed and were able to eat and drink at our leisure, without feeling we would need to vacate our table at... Let me make clear, we enjoyed our meal and I have given four stars (very good) but...we don't think we will return. This is because we don't like the over-engineered offal on wooden platters. We found a couple of things that we enjoyed very much, but overall there was not the fine dining experience we had hoped for. Plateau is... More

We visited Plateau on Sunday to celebrate my girlfriends birthday and it turned out to be a great choice. We opted to share a number of dishes from the bites section of the menu, all of which were very nice, particularly the lamb carpaccio which was sublime. Would happily recommend and look forward to visiting again

This is a real gem! Food - choice is great, either sharing plates of meat or veggie or tapas style plates. Food is imaginative, really well cooked and beautifully presented. Wine - large selection and waiter will recommend some to try. Venue - beautiful place with a modern, industrial feel, but it is still very cosy. Great atmosphere day or... More

We had a couple of drinks there during our trip to Brighton. The selection is incredible, you can choose from 130 different wines. Cocktails are also really good and the staff is polite and knowledgable.

Ok, there are cheaper but I have rarely enjoyed a restaurant as much. Imaginative, superbly cooked food. But what makes the place is the staff who seem happy. This translates into happy customers.

Underwhelming for lunch, better for dinner. Lacks joy - Mangetout is the sister you'd always wish you'd met first.

we were 18 upstairs and were looked after well on the basis of pre-ordered meal choices. Sadly could not really cope with young children's taste but that is allowable. Wines were fine and not too pricey, but we stuck to the French offerings. only sad thing in a way was there was nothing special happening for Bastille Day. It would... More

I read the reviews before I visited thinking French inspired, can't go wrong. It can. The most bizarre combinations. E g. The thimble full of dip for the cold boring bread was ground nuts (yum) with coriander seeds, so you were left with a mouth full of the outer layer of the seeds! There was a mozzarella and pea salad... More

Perfect for a couples date night. We had booked a table as it is a small and busy place, were greeted promptly and sat upstairs. The upstairs is very relaxed and more suited for romantic meals than downstairs, which has a bit more of lively atmosphere. We ordered the oysters to start, followed by the meat platter. A selection of... More

Independent bar à vin, restaurant & cocktail bar based in The Lanes, BrightonWe are a unique bar à vin & restaurant with a passion for great food & wine. We have put a great deal of time & love into selecting our wines. At Plateau you can discover interesting & affordable wines that you are unlikely to see on other local wine lists. Our selection is mostly natural with some biodynamic & organic examples. We have sourced wines from local Sussex producers to renowned names & newcomers. To soak up the wine we serve ‘bites’, small dishes perfect to share or great as a starter. Follow your ‘bites’ with a ‘plateau’ to share or a 'plat' & that’s our dinner experience… although don’t forget dessert! Our chefs source organic, fresh, local produce as much as possible.Did we mention the cocktails? They’re probably the best in town & although we don’t serve Carlsberg we do serve some pretty imaginative beers from around the world. We have some top quality spirits, including some rare rum, whisky & cognac…and I almost forgot, keep an eye out for the ‘cocktail de la semaine’ & ‘beer of the moment’.There is no set way to visit Plateau, you can match the wine to the food or the food to the wine. Pop in just for a drink, a few bites or a three-course meal – the idea is that you do whatever suits you.
