I've reviewed the Black Swan before but just had to again after a visit in October and December 2020. Not only is the food and drink still excellent here but the team were clearly working extremely hard to keep going whilst adhering to all the...Covid restrictions. In October we came in the evening but a special mention must be made for their Sunday roast. Excellent! Can't wait until we're able to return.More

Came to visit during a staycation in Langton Matravers and were amazed to find such heavenly food in this unassuming spot. Staff were friendly and the French chef is an absolute gem - he came out regularly to talk through the stories of some of...the dishes. So much effort goes into their food and it shows. I'd recommend everything we ate. Starters: The breaded brie is accompanied by an unbelievable pineapple chutney that was so caramelised and delicious. We couldn't resist the whitebait either. For main, we shared the Jurassic Feast - fortunately Chef came out to tell us it was definitely enough for two as we had planned on ordering even more. Oops! The wings and ribs were glazed to perfection; but it was the slow-roasted pork shin that really stood out; the most unbelievable melt-in-the-mouth meat. We also added the dauphinoise potato to the platter and it was worth it!! By this point I was stuffed but couldn't resist 'Death by Chocolate' for dessert. I made the right decision because both the chocolate pot (the chef's mother's recipe) and the brioche & butter pudding were so so special. If we're ever in the area again, we'll certainly return.More

Lovely setting to enjoy an intimate Sunday roast. Open fires, wood beam ceilings and cosy necks and crannies. Dogs are also welcome here. Food was filling and tasty. The meat was plentiful and was a tasty roast! Service was very good too.

Been looking forward to this all week and it did not disappoint. Great service, friendly staff (chef came out for a chat also) and the food was incredible. Cannot recommend this place highly enough - just make sure you book in advance

Very friendly folk. An excellent choice of specials, vegetarian and usual mains. We chose mussels and chicken wing starters. Wonderful onion based sauce accompanied the mussels fresh that morning. Delightful sauce with the chicken wings: chicory and cayenne pepper. An excellent main of Skate wing...good size . Jerk chicken & prawn with rice and homemade coleslaw was very good. Finished with a lemon sorbet and a salted caramel ice cream. 10% off for blue light: nhs, police, fire service. Will definitely return.More

We have recently been barred from the Black Swan for complaining about an unsatisfactory meal. We have eaten there dozens of times, supported them and recommended them. As a rule the food we have had there has been delicious & the service good, hence the...enormous number of times we have returned there. There have however been rare occasions where the standard has slipped & dishes have been unsatisfactory. The response of the senior staff when this has happened has been disappointing and despite showing some regret they have also been indignant and flippant when told of the problem. It's inevitable when you eat somewhere as often as we have at the Black Swan that sometimes things can go wrong and we fully appreciate that, however no-one should expect such a patronising response for pointing it out. To our amazement this has now resulted in them telling us our custom is no longer wanted and they have cancelled our two future bookings. In conclusion, if you do eat there we hope you enjoy your meal but if you feel the need to complain, God help you!More
