Visited here on Saturday 11th Feb, as a stop for lunch, a group of six of us on our way to Devon. The pub is pleasantly laid out and plenty of room around the tables. The staff are polite and friendly. We were informed that there was approximately 20 minutes wait for food, but this wasn't a problem as we... More

Dear alfieinwestsussex Thanks for the great review, so pleased you had a great lunch.! Our gammon is locally sourced and often gets compliments from our locals, so is really good to see it on trip-advisor. Yes I do agree, always check your bill/receipt before you leave. We do everything the old-fashioned way, ringing in the bill when you come to... More

As we are staying locally, we decided to visit The Martyrs , even though our entry was a bit like American Werewolf in London the bar/Restaurant was nice and warm , with open fires and nice decor it looked lovely. Service was good and the selection of real ales was great too. The Sunday Roast of beef and ham with... More

I'm breaking a self made rule - I don't write reviews and neither does my friend who I ate here with - so please note that everything written is how we both feel (I got the task of authoring this). The Martyrs Inn more than deserves to be celebrated. I had booked a table here for lunch following a walk... More

We were on our way back from Portland to home in London, wanted lunch before hitting motorways. Spotted this pub, not expecting anything spectacular but greeted by a nice young lady who gave us menus, we wondered about a starter, but had a large breakfast so opted for fish and chips. A huge portion arrived, beautifully presented, with a pot... More

We needed dinner and I noticed the sign for Tolpuddle, so we turned off the A35. We found the Martyrs Inn in the village and pulled into the car park. The wood burning in the fire place in the bar was very welcome. I enjoyed a pint of ale and my wife had J2O. We ordered battered fish, chips and... More

We pop along to this place, at any excuse. We've eaten here at least 4 times since our first visit this summer. The food and service is always good. The staff are predominantly all young and are very friendly and attentive. The food is plentiful, tasty and good value. The atmosphere is always good and is very dog friendly. Need... More

Me and the missus went here as we were driving past. We had zero expectations, just needed feeding. Standard country pub aesthetics, very friendly bar staff, expected cohort of farmers and their dogs in the bar area. Very clean and open and that's when we started noticing the little details, from our table by the fire. Tasteful Christmas decorations around... More

I did a divert here to escape the rain en route and was glad I did, a lovely Inn, comfortable, warm. I ordered a grilled chicken sandwich with salad and chips and then a yummy and filling rhubarb crumble and custard. Service was pleasant and delivered quickly, and value for money over all, I would return another time 😊
