Why on earth pubs choose to open for only a couple of hours at lunchtime when Sunday's have changed so much for everyone else is beyond me. But fortunately The Martyrs Inn does stay open. Of course they have a quiet spell in the afternoon, but this means that people like us who do want to have a lie in,... More

very average food that was over priced for what you got. Staff polite but "cold". No background music so as the pub was so quiet you felt a little bit like you were in a library

A stop-off Sunday lunch on our homeward journey from Cornwall this Hall and Woodhouse pub fitted the bill perfectly - just off the main Dorchester road at Tollpuddle ( the pub is actually in Athelhampton and is easy to find) . We enjoyed a welcome refreshing drink and the Sunday lunch carvery for a welcome price of £13 a head.... More

A Hall and Woodhouse inn selling Badgers beer. The carvery was good value for money. £9.95 or for £14.99 you can have the carvery + beer/wine/soft drink + dessert. Medium rare beef ( tender and delicious ) and pork which other half found a little dry. Not a huge selection of vegetables but all the essentials were there. Parsnips were... More

Hello IntrepidExplorer27 Really pleased that you had a great time, and enjoyed one of our 'Great Value Dining' deals, with tighter household budgets we are trying to make it easier for everyone to enjoy some lunch or dinner out and about. Sorry to hear about the sticky table, it seems our sanitiser spray is dissolving the varnish on the tables,... More

The specials Duck was dry and salty and the Halloumi Burger had a sliver of Halloumi in it with a great big fried courgette - which was described on the menu as crispy. Very average pub grub which tastes like 'Iceland' frozen food. On the plus side the girls at the bar were very helpful - and we did not... More

Hi EssexBirdDaisy Thanks for visiting, I am sorry that you did not enjoy your time with us, I have spoken to the kitchen team about our 'veggie' burger, it should have even portions of Aubergine, Red pepper and Haloumin (though not courgette). With regard to the duck dish, I must defend our chef, as it was on the specials board... More

Wow. We visited this pub for Father's Day and there were around 35 of us altogether. The Carvery meal was stunning. The Beef & Gammon melted in your mouth and the roasties and veg was done to a T. A few even managed sweets and they went down brilliantly too. An Excellent pub with Excellent food. Highly recommended by me... More

Fortunately, we booked in advance for Sunday lunch as the restaurant was fully booked. My fussy daughter was disappointed that there was no chicken but the waitress very quickly said they could help here as beef and gammon were on the carver you menu. A menu for my 3 year old grand daughter was offered and she was spoils for... More

We visited this inn on the first occasion because Athelhampton House was not serving lunches earlier in the year when we called. We were not disappointed. We have now been twice for lunch and on both occasions the service and food has been first class. Will return no doubt.
