What a lovely little cafe! the woman behind the counter was polite and everything one could ask for! We only had a cream tea with a cuppa but even the scones were home made and delicious! The food that was being ordered looked lovely and the smells coming from the kitchen were something else! Like I said before, a lovely... More

We visited late in the day after a busy day of castle hunting!! It was a welcome relief to sit down to lovely cakes and cup of tea. Very relaxed atmosphere worth driving the narrow lanes to get here! Would definitely return for a meal as menu sounded lovely.

We didn't expect too much of this café off the beaten track, near the castle, but got a nice surprise. It was quite busy when we stopped for lunch, and the front of house seemed a bit flustered - orders were taken from new arrivals before those of us who had waited for a considerable time. But the menu looked... More

It was raining when we arrived so we sat on the veranda and had a cup of coffee and a slice of cake - very nice. Great setting and even has free WiFi (useful given the remote location). Had a fire going (in June?) which made it too warm inside for me but the veranda was just right.

A French menu by a talented French chef. The front of house team is just as impressive too. Very tasty and well priced!

Expectations are normally low for cafe's at castles and houses but this cafe is superb. High quality food from sandwiches to the lovely roast dinner we had, great chips too. Very friendly service and it wasn't a surprise to see reserved tables.

Only had coffee and cake but both were very good. It's got a very cosy feel and we will be back to try them for lunch. If you are in the area it's worth a visit.

Visiting the castle around lunch time and popped in for lunch. Had the tomato soup which was great and so were the strawberry milkshakes - real cosy with the fire going, recommend.

Top quality meal in wonderful surroundings in the middle of the Devon countryside. As good if not better than many London restaurants I've visited.

Lovely review of Mon Oncle Jean restaurant thank you Nick! And thanks for uploading the photos. Just what we need to move those old pictures of the roast dinner - from before our time - down the list a bit! More

Sheer chance we found this & now been three times this month with various friends. Lovely low key cafe with some stunning dishes - the French seafood soup is to die for. Not had a bad choice yet. Very friendly staff too. Yet to try the Sunday roast but that's next on the agenda.
