We had a lovely evening. We did not feel rushed even though they were fully booked. Our table by the window had a long view over harbour. Every mouth full was scrumptious. The cost of 2 mains , 2 desserts a bottle of red set us back £100. I felt charging for water and sides with the main was excessive... More

A group of 6 dined in fine style with excellent service and food. However the three men all left the establishment with the desire to go to the local choppy to fill up. With food at these prices portions should be more generous

This was my second visit to the Elephant....I was impressed by the first one. I visited while on holiday so I is not local to me. Very interesting menu with many locally sourced products. A smashing variety of dishes.. all very tasty. Cheese selection was superb and all in very enjoyable. Staff were very attentive and provided good service. May... More

We visited here late 2015, I had a steak which was chewy and terrible, for the price you pay you expect top notch. No one came round to see how it was so I had to walk to the bar to complain. We visited again September 2016 and again it was terrible. We sent he steak back as we asked... More

Firstly, I have to say the food was good. The place easily deserves it's star. However, the service, although the staff were lovely, we felt between every course that we had been forgotten. No one to top up glasses, only one table check throughout. A real shame and the only time I've left a restaurant of this standard of cooking... More

Love to try new restaurants on our travels around the UK and on arriving in Torquay checked on Trip Advisor where to eat, made a reservation for Wednesday evening. Looking forward to a good meal but was so disappointed. Ok staff great, wine excellent but food such a let down in fact rather pretentious, quite flavourless although looking pretty on... More

Touring around the country as we do we always make a beeline for the more highly rated restaurants in which to treat ourselves.(you only get one life) The Elephant, all in all is lovely and some of the tastes truly exquisite. The portion size was fine for me but for my not so for my "not" particular hungry husband, who... More

Once a year I have to find a new place for our wedding anniversary meal. Having looked at all the possible venues in Torquay I chose the elephant as this years venue. First impressions were great. We were welcomed and seated straight away. The decor and layout of the restaurant is great which is always a good start. Our drinks... More

A friend and near relative I had not met up with for over 50 years booked a table for seven of us at the Elephant. My wife and myself had obviously heard of this restaurant but never eaten here for a meal. The place was very quiet (Thursday eve) which suited us as we all had a lot to talk... More

A lovely Saturday lunchtime outing to the Elephant in Torquay. By all means a very good experience. To start I went with the mackerel which was great, such a good balance of flavours and acidity. Several people had the crab which seemed to go down well! Then I went for the fillet, very well cooked and tasted great. A special... More

The Elephant is a bright, informal restaurant which overlooks the beautiful Torbay harbour. It was the first restaurant in Torquay to be awarded a Michelin star which it maintains today. We aim to source all our ingredients locally and sustainably, many from our dedicated farm in Brixham. Please feel free to ask our front of house team about anything you are unsure of. Run by chef proprietor, Simon Hulstone and his wife Katy. Food is cooked by a talented team of chefs and served by friendly, professional team of staff. Diners can enjoy a delicious à la carte menu and set menus featuring local and sustainable fish, meat and vegetables, sourced from the surrounding area, in an informal and attractive setting. For an extra special culinary treat opt for the tasting menu. Expect friendly and knowledegable service without the formalities. All our dishes change regularly depending on which locally grown and reared (many sourced from our dedicated farm) ingredients are at their best.
