Chippy looked nice from the outside. We ordered a garlic pizza and battered chips and were told it would only take 15 minutes to do.We had to wait 40 minutes other people came in and were served right away. When we got to the caravan which is only 10 minutes away the chips were hard, there were only about 10 chips with batter... This fish shop was on the same road as the appartment we were staying at whilst on holiday in Torquay. We fancied some local fish for tea so opted for the easy takeaway choice of fish and chips. I hadn't seen the sign outside when I walked up to the shop so was very surprised to see fish and chips... More

On passing I decided to call in as it looked like an authentic chippy. You can have your fish and chips in newspaper if you like the sign said but you have to ask? The service was ridiculously slow and it wasn't busy but I wasn't in a rush so it didn't matter. However when I got my fish and... More

Just got a take away from here and usually I cannot fault anything that is why I have not given a 5 star but as I plated my food up the beans had bubbles in which i know is a sign that they are off and were so sour unfortunately because they close at 2 I couldn't return them. Just... More

This was by far the best fish and chips in town. Extremely fresh and cooked whilst you wait. The cod was succulent and clean. Very well priced and a real hidden gem. Located not far away from our hotel

Myself and my work colleague work were doing a shift just up the road on a Thursday night and fancied a chippy. We ordered at 7pm for a 7.30pm pickup and when my colleague got there, he was ignored and other people that had just walked in the shop were all being served. He came back and I went up... More

The in-laws down for a family birthday and as we knew one of the other evenings was going to be super-expensive we decided on something we would all enjoy; and soak up some beer. So a fish and chip supper for seven and Grandpa once again came up trumps. Good flavour to the fish with large flakes of cod and... More

Tried a portion of fish and chips for just over £3 and was very pleased. Dubious about the price but when I ate it great portion size, succulent fish and a wee gem!!

Description
Grandad Nicols is now open and serving the residents and guest of torquay with freshly cooked " old fashioned fish and chips" the traditional way. We serve only the highest graded fish from the clean waters of iceland and local specials from brixham fish market, and home made specials like Haddock & Parsly fish cakes and our famous yorkshire fish cakes.

Due to a number of people thinking we have stale or old oil we have made the decision to change the type of oil we fry in we used to use beef dripping but we have had some comments saying that the oil was stale old etc. So we have now change to vegetable oil which is more commonly found in the fish and chip shops and most people are accustomed to
