As described in my hotel review this restaurant which is now named 'The 1881 Restauran't and no longer the Gainsborough Restaurant is quite elegant, extremely well managed and serves quality food. The staff are very friendly and highly efficient. The food is very good. Soft music plays, and the restaurant overlooks the sea.

Words cannot express how grateful we all were to the staff at The Grand Hotel on the evening of my Dad's 70th Birthday party on Saturday 15th October. The Restaurant Manager pulled out all the stops and changed our reservation from the restaurant to the conservatory - so that my Dad could enjoy the sea view. All the staff we... More

The Grand Hotel consistently delivers the best cream tea I have ever tasted. Two beautiful, homemade, large, light scones with ample amounts of strawberry preserve, clotted cream and a pot of tea, all for £6.50. Quite simply, neither the cream tea nor the price can be beaten! I have been coming to The Grand Hotel for many years and the... More

Only spent 1 day in Torquay but loved the beach and the gorgeous beach huts. Dined out in the old pub looking out to sea.

Food disappointed. Service was excellent. Room reflects the history of the hotel. Note now called 1881.

Visited the Compass Cafe bar at The Grand Hotel after a morning in Torquay. Enjoyed 2 different sandwiches both of which were excellent freshly made and with crisps and garnish. Cafetiere and delicious orange drizzle cake to follow. As always a pleasant experience with good staff service and a welcome. Good value and one of the only places you get... More

The Grand Club sandwich is the best in the bay. Likewise the choice of wines on offer are excellent. The service in the Compass cafe bar is always excellent. We dine here for lunch often.
