Nice little bistro with a bias on wines, attracting a more mature clientele. Although this Bar Bistro like many others focuses on wines, it does have a local ale on cask sitting on the bar. Food was good, had an enjoyable steak from the specials menu, served up by friendly staff. Strongly recommend booking ahead, as this is a popular... More

We ordered the blue cheese and pear salad, crab sandwich and a club sandwich with an extra bowl of fries. The fries never arrived and o was waiting to be asked if I wasn't we mayo as the crab had no binding and although delicious would have benefitted from some mayo. No checking on our table either!

We've visited the Chancel a number of times over the last 3 years while our daughter was at university in Plymouth, every visit has been fantastic and our most recent visit for our daughters graduation was no exception. Paula and her staff made us welcome as always and there was a congratulations card on the table which was a nice... More

Came here to celebrate my 50th birthday and it was fantastic. Staff were very welcoming, looked after us brilliantly and even gave me a birthday card, lovely touch, thank you. Atmosphere was just right and the food was amazing. We all ate everything that was put in front of us. Enjoyed every minute.

Very few restaurants are able to continually provide a combination of excellent food, service, ambiance and value for money, The Cancel does this all day, every day (except Sundays, when closed) If a famous larger brewer opened a restaurant this would be the template.

We visited the Chancel with a gift voucher my partner received for her 30th birthday. We decided we best go soon as we are expecting a little one any day now. We had bread and olives to share to start with, they were ok but not the best we've enjoyed. For mains I had the strips of fillet steak in... More

Not my first visit, but it's good to find a restaurant that has been selling consistently great food, wine and beer at reasonable prices for some time - with friendly service. Well worth visiting!

A small family run bistro, offering over 50 wines sold by the glass, carafe or bottle. All food is cooked to order, so we're not a place to visit if you're in a rush (unless you pre-order), but a great place to relax and enjoy fresh local produce. Primarily a Wine Bar, We are an adult venue and do not accept children under the age of 7. A warm friendly welcome awaits you.
