Very friendly and welcoming

We arrived very nearly on closing time on a quiet Sunday afternoon but nothing was too much trouble even though we were the only people there! Food was lovely, cakes scrummy and very reasonably priced. A gem in January for hungry walkers!

Ok but nothing special, visited here earlier in the year but did not visit on our trip this time! Lynmouth had a better view and atmosphere than lynton. About the establishment - fair.

We at Lily Mays are sorry to hear that you think we are nothing special. We pride ourselves serving excellent food and give the utmost service to our customers. We can understand that the sea at Lynmouth will always attract the holiday makers but I can assure you all the small businesses here in Lynton give 110% to all our... More

My mother and i visited Lynton and Lynmouth in July 2015, where we found this adorable cafe. As my mum is a pensioner but also has dietary restrictions its tricky for her to find a good quality, yet reasonably priced homemade sandwich for our days out walking. Lily Mays not only had the perfect cup of tea (very important!), they... More

This review is written by my grandmother who does not have a TripAdvisor account, but wishes to express her thanks to Lily Mays Tea Shop. My husband and I visited Lily Mays Tea Shop while we were staying in Lynmouth and felt it most definitely deserved a mention on TripAdvisor. We visited for an evening meal, and were very impressed... Visited on a very quiet morning in Lynton. Despite this the scones were lovely and fresh and the large cream tea was excellent value. Extremely clean and tidy and with very hospitable staff. Would happily return, although I'm still not hungry several hours later.

Visited Lily Mays Tea Shop when staying in Lynton. We were spoilt for choice when reading the menu, but my husband chose from the specials board and enjoyed a dish of chilli, with chips and salad. I opted for cheese on toast which was delicious - liked the presentation with salad in the middle of the plate, surrounded by triangles... More

Stopped for tea and croissants. Loved the sweets for sale. Old fashion style in jars. The quintessential old English tea room.

I have decided to reply to your review on Lily Mays cafe. First of all your comment about poorly wrapped food in the window,I would like to point out that this food is for display purposes only and not for human consumption.

I would also like to mention that Lynton is a very dog friendly town and when we are quiet I allow dogs into the cafe as long as they behave and don't disrupt other customers and yes I had a conversation with them about their dogs and yes Ii brought my dog out to see them but I had changed out my whites and was taking a break. After which I washed my hands as I always do before handling foods of any kind....our living quarters are next to the kitchen so at no time do I allow my dog or any animals into the kitchen area. The only reason I introduced my dog to your wife was because she was practically hanging off the chair looking at him with glee after all he is a little cutie.

Your comment about the food was rather strange because when I asked if you enjoyed the food your reply was yes and you certainly ate it all except for a small portion of quiche but it was a large serving.

Yes i agree with your comment about the carpet but as you mentioned we are new to the cafe and are doing what we can a bit at a time,we are a small family run business and are learning as we go but really Martin L you should get your facts right before you have a go at good hard working folks who are trying to earn an honest living.....but I'm glad you came into my cafe at least you were leaving someone else alone........thank you lily mays.....
