We visited chaucers yesterday with a group of approx. 30 for our son in-laws 40th birthday. other than our group there were no more than about half a dozen other costumers in all evening. The first thing I have to say is that I ordered 4 drinks at the bar and paid using my contactless card the person serving did... More

We were looking for somewhere in Exeter to eat. We didn't want to struggle through cheap crowded fast food restaurants of which there are many in Exeter. We wanted somewhere that was quiet that served decent cooked food. We stumbled across Chaucers which is situated below street level. Once inside it is quiet and you wouldn't know that you were... This pub has probably the best location in Exeter, and under proper management it could be a goldmine. The best thing is that they do a good wine deal - buy 2 large glasses ans get the rest of the bottle free. There it ends. The food is mediocre to bad. However the worst thing is that, for instance we... More

In desperate search of a nice restaurant in Exeter downtown, we ended up here, and were pleasantly surprised. Staff was friendly, local beer very good, and the fish and chips were good value for money. This is not gourmet food, but honest stuff.

It was surprisingly quiet for a Friday lunchtime. Service was excellent. I went for the chicken and parsley curry which was good, my wife went for the duck stir fry in which the duck apparently "melted in the mouth". Our two friends both plumped for the lasagne which they found very dry and contained too much onion, The sweets were... More

This is a sort of Harvester type fare place - staff are friendly, decor is a bit tired as is the menu - its is burger and scampi sort of place- oven chips. You won't be wowed but then if youre hungry and in a rush and dont want a formal meal then probably you'd be ok with this -... More

Great service by the assistant manager, enjoyed the banter and friendly hosting. Food was great, especially with the Stilton and port sauce to accompany the steak. Me and my friend throughly enjoyed. Will definitely return. Hayley
