It took me a long time to finally visit Jack in the Green, although I don't live far away. I was always slightly nervous of booking, as the restaurant is always being feted by high fliers and it just keeps winning awards - I thought it might be out of my league! How wrong could I be? The ambiance was... More

Early evening meal with friends: we were made to feel very welcome and relaxed. Not a cheap place to eat but definitely worth it, particularly for a special occasion.

This inn, which is only a short detour from the main A303/30 route into Devon, was the setting for a celebratory lunch for a colleague and me. Service was prompt and attentive but not intrusive, After drinks and the menu in the bar we were led into the dining room which, given we were in the middle of hurricane Imogen,... More

We visited here on recommendation one Sunday lunch. We opted for just a main as did not think we would be able to manage a 2 course. We had roast beef which was cooked to perfection and was delivered to our table with the Yorkshire pudding and gravy on plate. The vegetables were served separately and were very tasty. My... More

My wife and I have just returned from having Sunday lunch here and we were both very impressed, we travel many miles trying to find the best roasts and this place has just joined our list of five restaurants worth visiting out of about 50 which we have tried. On arrival we were seated by the bar handed menus and... More

We visited for dinner, if I'm honest we were a bit disappointed. The food was well executed, however it was not that tasty. The starter of black pudding, crispy bacon with duck egg and salad, suggested this dish would be full of flavour but it was surprisingly lacking in flavour. The Smoked Salmon starter with king prawns was ok but... More

The food came quickly and we were well looked after. The menu prices are what you come to expect from such an establishment but well worth it for the duck which simply melted in your mouth! One tip for the bar staff… please change your nuts, they were stale like old cardboard. Apart from that. Excellent. Well done!

These days the Jack in the Green on the old A30 a few miles from Exeter is no ordinary pub. The decor is cosy and traditional but the cooking is 21st century. We visited on a quiet Sunday evening, three of us choosing from the Sunday menu. Our choices included duck liver parfait with brioche and redcurrant jelly, rare roast... More

We dined here with a stay locally with two other couples. The pub has a great buzz and the men in the group loved the local beers on offer. Our food was really good quality, not huge portions but really tasty. The 'cider' crème Brule was particularly good. Excellent selection of wines available, and sampled!
