After waiting an hour for our food, it was not worth it. We knew there would be a wait, which was not a problem at the time until the food finally came. The menu was fairly limited, but the specials sounded good, except they were...More

I keep coming back to Assay as the food /service always wonderful so why go elsewhere? This time I took friends who hadn't been before. One was on GFdiet & was really impressed by how many options on the menu were GF free. Also, this...More

The food was terrific, very tasty and good quality. We started with a great seafood chowder. I then had the excellent lamb, the rest of the party had megrim sole which was lovely. Desserts were a little disappointing and expensive. The service was very slow,...More

This is a rather strange mix of eating and drinking place but the food was of excellent quality albeit rather limited in quantity. I was tempted to try the cheese board at the end of the meal and found the range of cheese rather limited...More

Once again I echo other contributors, this place is great, we were wandering around one evening and just popped in on a whim... so pleased we did. Everything was served and cooked to perfection. The scallopes were devine. The decor is relaxing, and you can...More

Every time we visit Penzance, 3 or 4 times a year we always eat here and have always enjoyed a great meal. Think it's changed hands recently but the lady from before was still on hand. We tried the tapas and it was really tasty...More

If you are holidaying in Penzance do not miss an opportunity to have a meal at the Assay House. One of the finest meals we had during our tour of Devon and Cornwall. The fish chowder is 'supreme'. The South African chef and the staff...More

Found this restaurant nearly empty on a Monday night in the rain, and although I usually go for fish I chose the lamb dish; two different cuts cooked different ways, but what a wonderful meat dish full of flavour. The lamb is from Newlyn. The chef...More

Description
Welcome to the Assay House, a small friendly bar & dining room located in Penzance's historic Chapel Street that is open throughout the year for a range of drinks and food. Whether you are looking for morning coffee, light lunches, afternoon teas (cream and high) or a more substantial meal then the Assay House offers a good selection. We serve great tasting 'Fat Roc' coffees and 'Novus' teas along with a selection of carefullt selected wines, beers and spirits. On the food side, our kitchen provides a lunch and evening menu that is supplemented by a daily 'Specials' selection that often uses the great fresh seafood catch landed at nearby Newlyn. A good selection of vegetarian, lactose and/or gluten free meals is offered on all menus and gluten free cakes, bread and pasta are usually available daily. The team at the Assay House are available to discuss your requirements for private parties and small events throughout the year. If you are in Chapel Street then pop in and say hello.
